Ryobi Hammer Drill
The RYOBI ONE+ HP 18V Brushless Cordless Compact 1/2 in. Hammer Drill Kit with (1) 1.5 Ah Battery and Charger is another of the RYOBI tools that make my job a lot easier. I have used this tool numerous times and each time I am surprised by its battery power. Since it is another of Ryobi’s 18v tools, I have two other batteries on charge to replace the one I’m using when necessary. They all work on one of the same powered battery charge and 18 Volts.

Easy to use, well made drill!
With the battery attached, the drill body feels balanced and comfortable in your hand. I wanted this drill because it has a true 1/2 in capacity chuck. (See image below.) The kit from Home Depot comes with a 1.5 Ah Lithium-Ion battery which should be enough battery run-time for most home users. If you use your drill often throughout the day, you will want a larger Amp-hours capacity battery. The charger is straight forward and easy to use. The LED function lights let you know if the battery is charging correctly or if there is a problem. What’s really nice is you can see the charge level lights on the battery as it is charging. Once the battery is charged and attached to the drill, you can check the level of charge left in the battery. The battery is part of the RYOBI ONE+ system of tools so you can use this battery in your other RYOBI ONE+ line of tools. Since the drill has a 1/2 in chuck, I assumed it would be powerful enough to use accessories that would require more torque to power through a variety of uses. So far, drilling, driving screws, and using large spade bits, the drill has performed as expected. I have not used the drill in Hammer Mode yet. As far as tool settings, the drill has a 2-speed gear train. Select between low and high depending on the application. Only change between the settings when the drill is NOT running. The 24-position clutch allows you to select the proper amount of torque depending on the type of material and size of screw you are using. The variable speed switch trigger delivers higher speed with increased trigger pressure and lower speed with decreased trigger pressure. Position the direction of rotation selector to the left of the switch trigger for forward drilling. Position the selector to the right of the switch trigger to reverse the direction. Placing the rotation selector in the center will lock the switch trigger so the drill won’t start.

A great feature packed hammer drill from Ryobi!
This is a review for the Ryobi HP brushless ONE+ hammer-drill with 1/2" chuck. I have been a satisfied Ryobi user for years. This newest hammer-drill is in a league of it's own. As with almost every Ryobi ONE+ power tool, it comes with a no hassle 3 year warranty and can use any of the ONE+ battery packs. I want to talk about the size first. It is compact! It fits well in your hand and has a good balance point. The soft rubber over-mold on the handle prevents slipping. The motor is brushless and is PWM (computer chip) controlled so it has a soft start and ramps up to full speed in a very predictable mode. The 1/2" chuck is a Jacobs style and is clutched with 22 torque settings. it also has a locked position for drilling and the hammer-drill position. The 2 speed gearbox lets you easily choose between high and low. The brushless motor may be small, but it really packs a punch. I was able to plow thru a 1 1/2" wood panel with a 3" hole saw with no difficulty. The drill has a LED light that is focused just forward of the chuck. A couple more very cool features! - when the forward/reverse switch is in the middle (locked) position you can pull the trigger and the LED light will come on for 15 seconds. The drill body has a rubber over-mold on the back and the sides to prevent damage to the drill and to surfaces. The charger base has LED indicators for charging states. The charger can be mounted on the wall with the built in slots and Ryobi even molded the spacing measurement into the plastic. New for ONE+ batteries, there is a built in charge level display. Ryobi has a real winner with the ONE+ HP 1/2" HammerDrill!

The most versatile drill-driver
These new Ryobi brushless motors produce a LOT of torque! The incremental trigger provides accurate instant control. That's useful for driving slowly to set screws flush, or drilling fast and all speeds in-between. This chuck is high-quality! It grips firmly with minimal effort, releases easily, and has pro-level concentricity like premium tools that cost much more. But why choose a drill-driver with hammer action? It has all the features I need in one convenient tool: 1-It's a screw-driver with plenty of torque. The torque adjustment works perfectly. It clicks solidly into place and the settings are repeatable. 2- The two-speed switch and variable-trigger enables drilling in wood or metal. 3- Hammer drills provide pounding action, similar to impact drivers. That helps prevent "cam out" when driving screws. The hammer function is useful for drilling hard materials like marble, granite, cement and brick. Having all those functions in one tool means, I do not need to carry separate drivers and drills. This ONE tool does several jobs. With a "quick-change" adaptor chuck, it's fast and easy to switch from one task to another. Sure, when assembling larger projects in the shop, it's convenient to have two or three dedicated tools: a drill, a driver, and sometimes a countersink, one in a separate tool. But when I must carry tools, I prefer to carry less stuff. To carry less but do more, a hammer-drill / driver is the logical choice because it does the work of three different tools. Now, ...why choose Ryobi? We have over thirty Ryobi tools for home, garden and shop. All my Ryobi tools have always worked well. The batteries last a long time. Every "one plus" battery works in ALL their 18- volt tools. I've never had one fail in over ten years. Combine that reliability with the new brushless motor and smooth straight chuck, this is a high-quality and versatile little machine. So far, I've used this on a custom desk project and a few small jobs around the house. From that experience, I can say this thing performs like a pro tool, but at a much lower price. I own and use every major brand of almost every type of power tool. Frankly, they have all served me well, so I am not knocking other brands. But for value plus performance, I think Ryobi gives the best bang for your buck.

Compact, Brushless, Lightweight Beauty!
This new compact "light duty" hammer drill is excellent. Prior to adding this to my tool bag, I was still using a pair of very old blue and gold Ryobi 18 volt drills. These are at least 15 years old and a testament to Ryobi 18 volt products. This new product is excellent. Compact = fits my hand like a glove. Brushless = Longer run time due to more efficient motor. Lightweight = Tool (without battery) weighed 2 pounds, 3 ounces. This is at least 1 pound lighter than my old blue Ryobi drills. Product also has 1/2" chuck. I also needed a new battery and this came with a 1.5 amp-hour battery and a much more compact charging base. A few "cost saving" measures are evident to keep this product at a competitive price point: "knurled" chuck is plastic vs. metal on higher cost products. No onboard storage for your drill bits. Overall two thumbs up.

Great tool, great buy
The RYOBI One + hp 18V brushless cordless compact 1/2 in Hammer Drill would be the best tool to purchase when buying your first cordless drill or adding another drill to your collection. This drill is 29% more compact than the previous hammer drill, allowing one to drill in closer spaces. It has many of good features, including twice the running power on a battery, 27,200 bpm, 1,700 rpm, and 400 in/lbs of torque with 22 torque adjustments. One drill to do it all, from drilling in any surface and driving in screws.

Ryobi Drill that can do it all!
I especially like the size and torque of the new Ryobi 18V Brushless Cordless Compact Hammer Drill Kit. The kit includes the hammer drill, a 1.5Ah Battery and a PCG002 charger. I much prefer the style of the Ryobi PCG002 battery charger to the P118 battery charger that was included with the kits that I purchased in the past. In my opinion, this is the perfect drill: It offers two speeds along with a variable speed trigger. And, the torque is fully adjustable for driving very small screws to large screws (1-22), for drilling or for the hammer drill function. It is nice to have all of the driving and drilling functions in one nice compact package. Overall this is an incredible tool especially for the price; I highly recommend it.

Great drill and fast battery charge.
RYOBI ONE+ HP 18V Brushless Cordless Compact 1/2 in. Hammer Drill Kit with (1) 1.5 Ah Battery and Charger Pros: Comes with 18 volt battery and charger, compatible with all Ryobi One tools, keyless chuck, variable speed, led spotlight, medium weight, fast recharge time Cons: None This Ryobi One 18 volt drilling kit comes with a battery that is compatible with all other Ryobi One electric tools; I see this as a big advantage. One battery and one charger operate multiple compatible tools. At 3.25 lbs with battery the unit is not too heavy and it sits comfortably in the hand. With a maximum diameter capacity of 0.5 inches, this portable drill can handle most jobs around the house. The unit comes with a two speed gear train in addition to the variable speed trigger. The gear train fine tunes the drilling speeds for different applications as explained in the user’s manual. Additionally, there are three adjustments to the clutch: hammer drill, normal drilling, and slip clutch for screws and more delicate applications. In testing the unit, I found the drill to work flawlessly. An led work spotlight comes on as soon as the trigger is squeezed and remains on for a few seconds after the trigger is released—a nice touch. I recharged the battery from almost empty. Full recharge took one hour. Highly Recommended

The included 18V, 1.5 Ah battery and charger is compatible with a whole line of Ryobi One products. The drill has a 24 position clutch to manage most any household jobs and the led light makes this a full featured hammer drill in a compact package. Nice!

well made drill and kit is a bargain
This is a well made tool at a good value. This is one of the most useful Ryobi 18V tools you can own. I have a pretty good selection of Ryobi 18V tools now but drills seem to be the thing I use most of all. I have 5 different 18V drills and this one stacks up well against any of them. I like how compact it is while still having plenty of power. I have yet to be disappointed in one of the Ryobi 18V tools. They keep surprising me with how much value for the dollar they manage to deliver. This drill kit with battery and charger is less than several of the tool only drills I have bought (one very recently that was about exactly what this one was). Yet it has all the power and I have yet to destroy one of these tools. And I really put them through some torture tests. I’d say in a world where it is getting more important every day to get the most out of your money that Ryobi is well positioned as THE leader in providing value for the dollar in these tools. I hope they can keep it up. I’s also the sort of thing that pressures other makers to keep prices in check. You just flat out cannot beat what you get for the money with these one+ tools. This is a nice kit with the battery that has the charge indicator just like much more expensive batteries. These are the ones you want. Also one little feature I really like on this one is the rubber knurling on the chuck. It’s really well done. It gives a very good grip making it easier to get it good and tight. It’s better than my more expensive drills in that regard. This kit is a bargain and you can’t go wrong with it.
Perfect compact hammer drill
My daughter has been gathering tools to prepare for home ownership. Originally I planned on handing down some of my beloved ones but decided it was time for her to have a nice set of new tools. This is the first of a set of good quality power tools im planning on getting her. Not only is this hammer drill powerful but is very compact. I have a variety of other Ryobi tools and have had great results over the years. Even though it's compact, it is loaded with features. Easy to adjust torque settings, simple switching to hammer setting for concrete drilling , a powerful light and a battery that displays its level of charge are just some of the great features.

Much more useful than a standard drill
The RYOBI ONE+ HP 18V Brushless Cordless Compact 1/2 inch Hammer Drill is much more useful than a standard drill. For years, I’ve cursed the very thought of having to drill into a masonry wall. What I didn’t know until recently was, there is a tool designed for this very job and it’s called a hammer drill. A hammer drill is essentially a type of drill designed to drill small holes into difficult materials that a normal drill simply could not penetrate. This includes things like masonry and concrete. The cool the about the Ryobi hammer drill is that it functions both as a standard drill and a hammer drill. The drill has a variable speed trigger and a two-speed gear train. The 1/2-inch keyless chuck makes changing drill bits a snap. Once again, Home Depot and Ryobi have made my life a little bit easier.

A solid reliable Hammer Drill
I chose the RYOBI ONE+ HP 18V Brushless Cordless Compact 1/2 in. Hammer Drill with Battery and Charger to replace an old cordless hammer that the brushes are starting to make it skip. I like that the drill is brushless so the drill should be able to handle the punishment use for years to come. I like the hammer drill setting and will speedup drilling into concrete. I like that the drill is almost perfectly balanced in your hand and is about 2 lbs.

Very satisfied so far. My only wish would be for the drill head to be a bit more forward of the battery pack below. The battery pack position can sometimes interfere with reaching the screw head.
Great addition to my tool set!
This is a new addition to my Ryobi tool collection. It is a nice and small compact hammer drill with adjustable clutch speeds and rotary adjustments (hammer or drill). Coms with a light weight 1.5 ah battery and charger, has a work light that is nice and bright. Works with all Ryobi 18v batteries and drill driver/hammer drill accessories. Can't go wrong not buying it.

Impact Driver with Hammer Drill Property
Since battery life matters, I recorded the initial charge of the battery out of the box. It took 42 minutes, which is a lunch hour. Pretty good. As for power, I was able to drill 4 quarter inch holes in concrete block and the battery level held at 3 bars out of 4. The other thing I noticed was how much power was available, even from a 1.5 amp/hour battery. The older versions of these batteries were not as juicy, but these seem to deliver the payload of the full 18 volts but with just less time (and weight). I am ready to finish my project now- once I get unlazy and go to the store for some 2 x 4's. Thanks, Ryobi!
