This Compact Hammer Drill provides up to 2X more runtime than the brushed model, allowing users to get more done per battery charge. It's also equipped with a brushless motor that delivers up to 400 in./lbs of torque to power through a variety of applications. Hammer Mode provides versatile drilling through concrete, brick and block with 0 - 27,200 BPM. Works like it should!

So Compact but powerful!!
After many years of use and some abuse some of our power tools are getting a bit tired to say the least. One of which is our hammer drill that has been used at home and work. We saw the Ryobi One+ HP 18 volt Brushless Cordless compact 1/2 inch hammer drill and thought it might be a viable option. We have several Ryobi tools have have been happy with them over the years. We are just now starting to add some of the brushless ones to our collection. I love the fact that this tool is in thier One+ 18 volt line as it allows us to use the batteries interchangably rather than having seperate batteris for everything. This new brushless hammer drill is so compact compared to our old one. It is much easier to handle and not anywhere near as heavy. I know it said 29% percent smaller but I did not realize what a difference it would make. It measures in at only 6.7 inches in length. While it is a hammer drill and very well suited for drilling into masonary and concrete it can also be swtiched to more of a non hammering drill so it can serve as both for those who only need the feature on occasion instead of daily. With the 24 different clutch settings there is plenty of power options to choose from. It has 2 different speed settings it delivers 0 to 450 and 0 to 1700 RPM. It did seem to have much more power than our previous unit. When using it on concrete it did not seem to heat up like our old one did and I contribute this to it being brushless. It has a light built in that comes on when the trigger is pulled that helps in some tighter areas where visability may be a bit low. The chuck area is very nicely textured and allows for easy bit changes. It also comes with the 3 year warranty that Ryobi is well known for. Overall I think this is a great addition to our set and can see it being used on a frequent basis. It makes me want to look into the other brushless tools as replacements as well.

Let's Torque!
I'm glad this is a half-inch drill. Why spend your money on a quarter inch drill? This is a drill(duh), a hammer-drill, and a driver. There are 24 clutch settings and two speed ranges. The variable speed function works well. The chuck works nicely. It uses the Plus-One Ryobi batteries of which I have a good supply. It's smaller and lighter than other drills which makes drilling overhead easier and getting into tight spaces also. It seems every new drill, like this one, has an LED light on board to light up where you're drilling. It has a rubberized grip and a handle that fits your hand nicely. Glad bare tool is offered as I have Ryobi chargers and batteries.I like Ryobi tools and have some that have given me years of service. It's almost unnecessary to say this drill is cordless as I believe more cordless than corded are sold nowadays. If you need a drill, this is a good choice. A great gift idea.

Ryobi Hammer Drill
The RYOBI ONE+ HP 18V Brushless Cordless Compact 1/2 in. Hammer Drill Kit with (1) 1.5 Ah Battery and Charger is another of the RYOBI tools that make my job a lot easier. I have used this tool numerous times and each time I am surprised by its battery power. Since it is another of Ryobi’s 18v tools, I have two other batteries on charge to replace the one I’m using when necessary. They all work on one of the same powered battery charge and 18 Volts.

Powerful
RYOBI ONE+ HP 18V Brushless Cordless Compact 1/2 in. Hammer Drill (Tool Only)
This Ryobi 18 V hammer/drill is great! It has a 1/2 chuck for larger bits yet much smaller in size than a regular drill and still provides the ability to punch a hole in concrete, masonry or brick. The LED light really helps in closed area. For the short time that I have had this drill, it is really comfortable in hand. The product specifications show that this drill is 29% smaller and will run twice as long, has 400 inch pounds of torque in the drill mode and in the hammer mode up to 27,200 BMP. Overall, a great addition to my 18 V collection.

Easy to use, well made drill!
With the battery attached, the drill body feels balanced and comfortable in your hand. I wanted this drill because it has a true 1/2 in capacity chuck. (See image below.) The kit from Home Depot comes with a 1.5 Ah Lithium-Ion battery which should be enough battery run-time for most home users. If you use your drill often throughout the day, you will want a larger Amp-hours capacity battery. The charger is straight forward and easy to use. The LED function lights let you know if the battery is charging correctly or if there is a problem. What’s really nice is you can see the charge level lights on the battery as it is charging. Once the battery is charged and attached to the drill, you can check the level of charge left in the battery. The battery is part of the RYOBI ONE+ system of tools so you can use this battery in your other RYOBI ONE+ line of tools.
Since the drill has a 1/2 in chuck, I assumed it would be powerful enough to use accessories that would require more torque to power through a variety of uses. So far, drilling, driving screws, and using large spade bits, the drill has performed as expected. I have not used the drill in Hammer Mode yet.
As far as tool settings, the drill has a 2-speed gear train. Select between low and high depending on the application. Only change between the settings when the drill is NOT running. The 24-position clutch allows you to select the proper amount of torque depending on the type of material and size of screw you are using. The variable speed switch trigger delivers higher speed with increased trigger pressure and lower speed with decreased trigger pressure.
Position the direction of rotation selector to the left of the switch trigger for forward drilling. Position the selector to the right of the switch trigger to reverse the direction. Placing the rotation selector in the center will lock the switch trigger so the drill won’t start.

A great feature packed hammer drill from Ryobi!
This is a review for the Ryobi HP brushless ONE+ hammer-drill with 1/2" chuck. I have been a satisfied Ryobi user for years. This newest hammer-drill is in a league of it's own. As with almost every Ryobi ONE+ power tool, it comes with a no hassle 3 year warranty and can use any of the ONE+ battery packs. I want to talk about the size first. It is compact! It fits well in your hand and has a good balance point. The soft rubber over-mold on the handle prevents slipping. The motor is brushless and is PWM (computer chip) controlled so it has a soft start and ramps up to full speed in a very predictable mode. The 1/2" chuck is a Jacobs style and is clutched with 22 torque settings. it also has a locked position for drilling and the hammer-drill position. The 2 speed gearbox lets you easily choose between high and low. The brushless motor may be small, but it really packs a punch. I was able to plow thru a 1 1/2" wood panel with a 3" hole saw with no difficulty. The drill has a LED light that is focused just forward of the chuck. A couple more very cool features! - when the forward/reverse switch is in the middle (locked) position you can pull the trigger and the LED light will come on for 15 seconds. The drill body has a rubber over-mold on the back and the sides to prevent damage to the drill and to surfaces. The charger base has LED indicators for charging states. The charger can be mounted on the wall with the built in slots and Ryobi even molded the spacing measurement into the plastic. New for ONE+ batteries, there is a built in charge level display. Ryobi has a real winner with the ONE+ HP 1/2" HammerDrill!
