Nice powerful impact on the chisel side of the dei
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Bought this for a brick mortar removal job and let me tell you worked wonders. It was a big job and this tool helped me get it done in 3 days by myself. Wish I would have purchased it sooner. The hammer drill works wonder drills straight through anything I put in front of it.

This heavy hammer drill gets the job done.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Ryobi model PSBRH01KI 5/8’’ rotary hammer drill kit gets the job done. With up to 6200 BPM it hammers thru your work. 18-volt brushless motor has great power and will last a long time. Nice large handle lets you control it better and it is not as trying as other hammer drills. This is compact so i can use it jobs that a larger one would be harder to
use. The control dial is easy to adjust for the job at hand. This works for me

Great Features
The RYOBI ONE+ 18-Volts HP Comp Brushless 5/8 in. SDS-Plus Rotary Hammer Drill Kit is surprisingly lightweight and compact for a hammer drill. This Ryobi line of cordless tools has good width - there is a wide range of tools that all use the same battery. Ryobi strikes a good balance between cost and construction. It should last a lifetime for a homeowner, but a contracter might want something more heavy-duty. On the other hand, I've seen plenty of contractors with Ryobi tools too. One thing about this drill - it does not have a standard drill chuck, and only takes special hammer drill bits. I can't find any mention of that in the website, and you might not notice it in the store.
I have a cordless drill with a hammer function, but have had instances where I need to drill wood, drill concrete, and insert screws/bolts. I have some Ryobi ONE+ items in the 18 volt line up already so this fits with some of the items I already have. I am a DIY home owner so like the price point of this set up and felt it would work well for my needs in standard concrete at home. I will say this is definitely not the power you find in a corded tool or in some of the more expensive cordless brands. For my needs and most home owners though this will work well. The tool works well with the hammer/SDS bit set I have and work well in my concrete. I have used better/quicker tools, but this was slightly slower at a much lower price point. If you are in need of a good tool for occaisional use or you are already invested in the Ryobi ONE+ line then I suggest this tool as a good addition!
My new favorite tool from Ryobi! Lightweight, powerful and gets the job done quickly!
Here is my review of my new Ryobi ONE+ HP 18V Brushless Cordless 5/8 in. SDS-Plus Rotary Hammer Drill Kit. It is important to note that this is not a regular drill. It has an SDS-Plus style chuck. It can only use SDS+ style drill bits. You can get an adapter to let you use regular twist drills. This Ryobi rotary hammer drill is surprisingly light, but it is not light on performance. With that said, I discovered a minor annoyance. The Ryobi PSBRH01 Hammer drill is front heavy, so it will not sit upright. Even with the battery installed it will tip forward. I would recommend getting the accessory belt clip, under $10 bucks (Ryobi# A10BC01) if you have a lot of holes to drill. The Ryobi has many features and comes ready to work. As I mentioned before, this is a rotary hammer drill and uses the SDS+ chuck style. The kit includes the rotary hammer, a charger and a 2Ah battery. The Ryobi hammer drill has a variable speed trigger, a forward/reverse switch, and a focused LED worklight that projects out in front of the chuck, so the work area is lit up! The hammer mode selector is locked with a thumb button so you can't accidentally engaged between the hammer-drill and regular drill modes. The Hammer drill can use bits up to 5/8" so it is great for most around the home/shop/farm projects. I was able to easily drill through a concrete foundation slab to install some 1/2" anchors. The rotary hammer drill plowed right through with very little vibration. As with most Ryobi tools, the PSBRH01 hammer drill is backed with a 3-year warranty.
A good choice if you regularly need holes in masonry, but lacks a hammer-only mode
SDS-Plus tools are specific to working with stone, masonry and concrete, making them sort of a one-trick pony in the world of tools. But if you are working with aggregate materials, an SDS-Plus hammer drill can be your workhorse! This Ryobi SDS-Plus rotary hammer drill is unique compared with Home Depot’s other in-the-store SDS-Plus tools. First, it’s cordless, using any One+ 18-volt battery pack. Second, is that it lacks a hammer-only setting, which was one of my buying criteria. Lacking the hammer setting made it useless for my intended purpose of taking a tile chisel to remove ceramic floor tile.
This tool is HEAVY in comparison with Ryobi’s other One+ tools, but not particularly well balanced. It goes nose-down even without having a bit inserted. That heft gives some confidence that the inner workings are sturdily constructed.
Built in task-illuminating LED that also act as a warning indicator for low battery, excessive force, high temperature, or other error conditions. I encountered one of those other error conditions on first use, while drilling through a concrete paver. Recovery was simple, but I am concerned that I managed to stress the tool with such light use.
Rubberized hand contact surfaces to aid in control, though it lacked a removable accessory handle, and steadying the tool by holding onto the rubberized front surface blocked the built-in work light.
The instructions indicate that the SDS-Plus shanks should get a dab of machine grease when inserted into the chuck. This would have been a good opportunity for Ryobi to include a small tube of the appropriate lubricant; I found some spray lithium grease on my garage shelf and have been using that, but it would be nice to have a reference with which to compare!
Other than heft, and the SDS-Plus compatibility, this is similar to my conventional Ryobi Hammer Drill (for which I already have a selection of masonry bits), lacking the Hi-Low gearing option and torque clutch. Be aware that the SDS-Plus chuck will NOT accept conventional bits. (A third-party chuck adapter is available that can let this one tool do dual duty, but it introduces a bit of slop into precision drilling and is not suited for drilling metal nor any of the hammering functions.)
The SDS-Plus bits are masonry-specific, making this a one-trick pony. Lacking the desired hammer-only option, I considered it more of a partial-trick pony, so consider your needs carefully. For somebody with MY needs, I would not recommend it, but that’s a flaw in my expectations rather than the product itself.
This battery-powered RYOBI Rotary Hammer Drill is a very important addition to my Ryobi ONE+HP 18 Volt tool collection. Well-balanced, with an auxiliary handle in front, it was able to drive the deck screws into place, in new cedar boards, in seconds – and set the trumpet-heads just below flush – which is my preferred way. My experience is that deck screws tend to be slightly above the surface after years of use. The dial control lets you choose Drill or Drill-n-Hammer which is very successful for drilling into a cement wall. The comfortable and smooth trigger activates variable speed. This is one very powerful machine.
No "Hammer" only mode but otherwise a nice piece of kit!
This kit (model PSBRH01K1) comes with the Ryobi rotary hammer (model PSBRH01), a 2 a/h high performance battery, and a charger. Any Ryobi One+ 18v battery will work in the tool but I think it's designed to work best with the "high performance" battery type. No case is included, nor is there an auxiliary handle or a belt hanger. There are threaded holes for a hanger, but a hanger or lanyard isn't included.
Two important notes - 1) There is a "Drill" mode and a "Rotary Hammer" mode but there is no "Hammer Only" mode. If you put a flat blade chisel in the tool it will rotate with no option to remain in any one orientation and 2) The drill does not accept "normal" twist drill bits; the chuck only accepts SDS or SDS Plus bits. SDS Max drill bits will not fit. No bits come with the kit.
Heat is the natural enemy of drill bits - you'll want to maintain pressure on the project but allow the drill to do the work. Leaning into the tool with your full body weight because "it isn't drilling fast enough" is a pretty sure way to burn out the end of the bit. Also - as on any SDS tool - you'll want to grease the shaft of the bit before inserting into the chuck. Read the manual on this.
Fit and finish is good. Videos are shown of pros using the tool one-handed; I'm a DIY'er, not a pro, and I find that a two-handed grip gives me better control of the tool. The drill, even with a 6 a/h HD battery installed, will not stand on the battery base; it tips over every time. The balance point is too far towards the front to do this trick.
One feature I especially like - there's a locking swivel selector (the Rotary Hammer -to-Drill Only mode selector). Once you've selected the mode there is little chance that the selector will accidently revert to the other mode. YMMV. See photo.
There's an LED light on the front of the drill that does a decent job of lighting the work. The trigger switch is incremental - the further you squeeze the trigger, the faster the drill works. There’s a standard forward/lock/reverse sliding switch in the handle of the drill.
In use I'm getting a fair amount of vibration when using a pointed chisel, less so with the masonry drill bits. Vibration, of course, depends upon the job being done. Ryobi claims the tool to be "low vibration" and I won't argue with that. I have an SDS MAX rotary hammer (much, much larger and much, much heavier than the Ryobi; it will take down 8" thick driveway pads!) and the Ryobi has less vibration than that. Apples-to-Oranges comparison, I know, but that's the only rotary hammer I have to compare to the Ryobi. As for the noise, it's louder than a standard cordless drill, I think, but nowhere near as loud as my SDS MAX hammer. It helps that the Ryobi has a brushless motor - there's no brush arcing.
You’ll probably want to have an extra battery (or two) on hand. Battery run time varies with the job at hand – harder material will require more power.
One of the chores I need the tool to do is to break up bricks and concrete chunks dug out of garden and back yard - a pointed SDS Plus chisel works fine for this. Of course, there are varying degrees of hardness in concrete; I wouldn't want to try to break down an 8" thick driveway pad using this Ryobi. It made short work of breaking down building bricks, a concrete block or three, and a cast concrete bird bath that I had dug up and needed to turn into rubble.
You'll want to wear protective gear . I use a full face mask - cement pieces generally just fall to the ground but I don't like the chances of a "hard object richochet" hitting me in the nose. Cement dust is really bad for the lungs - I think a really good mask or respirator is called for (YMMV). Ear plugs or ear muffs, of course; the Ryobi isn't overly loud but why subject yourself to damage unnecessarily? Read the manual for advice on safety.
If you want to expand the capabilities of the drill there are third-party chuck adapters available that will fit into the SDS Plus chuck on the Ryobi using an SDS shaft, while the other end is a 'regular' chuck that will accept 'regular' twist drill bits. I don't really love the SDS Plus drill as a 'regular' drill (it's a bit unwieldly for my taste) but it can save carrying two drill bodies (sometimes). Important note – you’ll want to use only the “Drill” mode with a chuck adapter; the “Rotary Hammer” mode is sure to break something.
For my purposes - breaking up bricks and concrete in my yard, and drilling through masonry for cable runs (I'm a semi-retired I.T. tech) the new Ryobi is filling the bill admirably. A "Hammer Only" mode would certainly be welcome (scraping tiles off of a floor can't be done if the chisel rotates) but there are other models for that. This one does the jobs I need it to do. YMMV.
I am a DIYer that has a large collection of Ryobi tools. They all work very well and this brushless rotary hammer drill is no exception. It is actually exceptional. I could not believe how lightweight this tool is and when switching from drill to hammer drill, there is no question that it is hammering. The back and forth motion of the hammer is pronounced like no other Ryobi hammer drill I’ve used in the past. I like that it also has the built in LED lights so I can see where I am drilling when in low light. This particular unit, PSBRH01K1 comes with a 2ah battery and charger. Ryobi tools are innovative and are perfect for the DIYer and professionals alike.
