Product Overview

This professional grade anti-siphon valve replaces Rain Bird and other irrigation valves installed above ground with 1 in. female threaded inlet and outlet. It can be used with any 24 volt AC irrigation timer. Its unique reverse-flow design helps prevent flooding in the event of internal diaphragm failure, keeping the valve closed and saving water. Anti-Siphon valves should always be installed at least 6 in. above the highest head on the valve line, and should never have another valve installed further down the line from the main valve. After installation and before startup, always the flush system of dirt and debris manually using the valve's external bleed screw. Equipped with the additional advantage of adjustable flow control, this model helps prevent wasteful misting when water pressure is too high. A top mounted, easy turn flow control knob allows you to optimize flow to the zone, permitting sprinklers to water at their most efficient rate for more uniform coverage. This valve can be applied with all types of watering devices including Rain Bird spray heads (1800, 600), and rotors (22SA, 32SA, 42SA+, 52SA, LG3 and AG5) as well as Drip zones when properly installed together with a pressure regulator and filter.
  • Anti-Siphon (above ground) mounting
  • 1 in. female threaded inlet and outlet (use 1 in. MPT threaded pipe adapters with Teflon tape)
  • Flow control allows adjusting flow to the zone, optimizing sprinkler performance
  • 24 VAC, 50/60 Hz automatic operation or manual activation with bleed screw
  • Buna-N diaphragm offers superior performance in harsh water environments
  • External bleed to manually flush system of dirt and debris prior to installation and system start-up
  • Spray-free internal bleed for manual operation
  • Energy efficient, low power encapsulated solenoid with captured plunger for long lasting dependability
  • Heavy duty construction with stainless steel screws

Answer

Roger, the valve is designed very well. There are three reasons why it is making noise. 1. Water pressure is to high up stream of the valve, try turning down the flow control a little to reduce (restrict) the pressure. 2. Water flow is to fast. Reduce the flow by turning down the flow control a little. 3. There may be air in the the up stream supply. Make sure that the valve is installed at least 6” above the highest head down stream. If not, water can cause back pressure on the valve from down stream and the valve will not operate properly. The valve uses pressure differential to open and close. The solenoid opens to release a very small amount of water on the top side of the diaphragm. The pressure on the lower side will push the valve open. Closing is just the opposite.

Sounds like air in the line. When you open the solenoid it opens gradually, but when opened electronically its opened all at once. What is upstream of the valves? If its effecting all of the lines then its not going to be downstream of the valves. Can you have someone turn it on remotely (manual button on the controller) while you stand by the valve and see if something shakes.

My guess is they would be 18 gauge. I am unable to find anything that specifies the actual gauge, though.

Slightly, if it leaks it’s loose threads or a incomplete gluing

Is this a manual control? Do I need an electric power source?

Yes, It takes electric power with some sort of timer/controller.

Can someone tell me what Solar controller I can use with this?

Asked by Andrea August 3, 2020

Answer

Thanks for your question. If you are wanting to run this valve off-grid without an AC-powered controller, there is a battery-operated Rainbird timer line you might want to investigate. It's the Rain Bird TBOS-BT 9V Battery Controller, 1-6 station models. It's compatible with this valve and the AC solenoid is replaced with a DC-powered solenoid. Although not a standard Home Depot item, you could ask if they will special order for you (ask at the Pro desk).

Do i need to intall back flow before this valve?

Answers

It has a back flow built in. That's the black device above outflow connector.

Have had good luck with these valves. They hold up well to the higher pressure and last a long time. The last one had a bad solenoid, but returns at HD are easy. The new one is working great.

After draining the system, this heavy duty valve is able to survive the winter in freezing conditions vs the cheaper valve which ends up cracking and leaking after the winter.

It works
Had a previous version installed but was missing the cap, For whatever reason, the cap is almost as expensive as the entire valve, so just went with a new valve. I'm using it manually, so I cant speak to the product as a whole (Hence 4 stars and not 5), but it works perfect for what I need. I lucked out when I purchased my home, although the previous valve was missing it's cap, who ever installed the system did so with the ability to detach one of the pvc pipes that were leading from this valve. My neighbor had a similar problem with his valve, but he had to cut pipes to get it off. Remember this if your installing a new system, or even replacing. Both pipes screw into the valve, and it's 1 piece.

Best purchase ever
Had rain birds lasted 12 years.Replaced 3 of them with new rain birds. Was really easy to assemble, easy to set up. with no problems.Love the flow control. They last a long time. 8-10 years or more if boxed and insulated. This valve rates up there with high end Hunter valves. If you have the extra fey bucks buy a rain bird, spend the $16.27 and you will not be disappointed and it will be worry free for years. Wouldn't go any other way.Rain bird is a trusted product.Would recommend this product.
