The threaded microspray attachment (the 180-degree one shown here or any of a number of other options) needs to be mounted on (screwed into) a Rain Bird "polyflex riser", which in turn is mounted on a Rain Bird "1/4-inch flex riser stake". The riser itself is not threaded but it easily receives the threaded male end of the microspray attachment above and on the upper end of the stake below. The risers are semi-rigid and come in 12-inch lengths that can be cut to size (I just use wire cutters). The stakes are about 5 inches in length and have a barb on the side to receive input from the microspray tubing that is part of your irrigation system. The stake is designed so that it directs the water coming in upward through the riser where the final spray pattern irrigating your plants is determined by the type of microspray head you have mounted and how wide open you have set the valve on that head.
