Various sizes of hoses such as 3/4, 1/2" etc all use the same hose end. The end of the hose attaches to the timer.

The unit stays in "OFF" mode even when i turn the dial to the other settings. What is the problem?

Asked by: ian
If all the individual unit info is entered (and followed by using the "set" button) , and then is placed in the "auto" mode as seen in the picture....and you have a fresh set of batteries in it and it still does not work, ot may be that the unit is broken. You can test the function without being connected to the faucet. You can hear and see the valve open and close even when it is not connected to anything.

If I have 60 gpm before attaching the timer and the water pressure drops considerably after the timer is attached, what are my next steps to get the sprinklers to work properly?
Asked by: 6tripsandcounting
Package instructions say install pressure regulator first then attach timer. Doesn’t work for me. I attached the timer first, then pressure regulator, then backflow preventer etc...

I changed washers, added plumbers tape, etc. but no luck. I took it back and exchanged it. Next one worked well for about two weeks, then the same leak appeared.

I actually installed this unit on a new low volume (drip irrigation) type system for my wife's rose and fruit garden. With the proper hose end connectors, it installed in moments and was very easy to program. I looked at the installation booklet afterward to be sure that there was nothing that I had missed. A couple of AA batteries is all else that you'll need. I have it set up to water for a hour, 4 days a week and it has been working flawlessly. I plan on getting a couple more in order to automate the watering of other garden areas we have (low volume as well). Very pleased user.

I use the Rain Bird Electronic Hose Timer with a soaker hose for my vegetable garden. Overall very easy to setup and easily programmable. Especially the feature to select to water on specific days of the week. I've owned it for a couple of weeks and it's met all my expectations.

Replacing a previous version of this product as the instant off/on feature stopped working. Setting up this timer is very straight forward. Each item (duration, date, etc), is on a separate quadrant on the dial. Makes setting very easy.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Stopped working after 1 week Set the unit to come on twice a day for 15 minutes. After 1 week it does not operate. The program shows on the display but fails to work. The valve will open in manual mode but not automatic. Don’t waste your money.

We bought a couple of the yard kits from Home Depot last year that include this timer, everything went smoothly and everything installed easily, the sprinklers work great, 5 stars. However the timer in the back yard, (mounted under a bush, (always in the shade), is exposed to rain, (in S Florida we get lots of rain). We have had 3 of the timers in the back yard go bad, (they get moisture inside, then either go crazy or quit working). I keep replacing the timers, actually installing a 4th new unit today (first 3 failed, a good sign it's getting ready to go is fog on the inside of the glass). This time I'm going to try to put a baggie over the top of the unit to prevent it from getting wet, open on the bottom, we'll see how that works out. The unit in the front of the house is mounted next to the house, (not exposed to rain), and is still going strong on the original batteries, no issues at all. Like I said, the timer design is great, and everything else (sprinklers, and underground lines, etc) all work. Just don't get the timer wet..... Otherwise it would be 4 stars. Another note, don't use any Rainbird fittings in the water lines going to the timer, they can't take the pressure and split and fail quickly, (we have gone thru 6-8 of the black rainbird 90 degree 3/4" elbows, (I was stupid to design my system using them). They are not designed to withstand constant (before the timer), city water pressure. All ours split and started spraying, after a few days, and had to be replaced with schedule 40 stuff. I'm only talking about before the timer, (under constant city water pressure), anything after the timers, (low pressure, intermittent, (ie...only when sprinkler is running)), the rainbird fittings are fine. Just trying to save ya a lot of re-digging.....
