Versatile, high-quality product with great customer support
I was intimidated by this kit at first--over 100 pieces--but worked step by step through the instructions to create a drip irrigation system for two different areas: a raised bed of herbs and a colony of pots in a shadehouse. I knew my plants well so was able to calculate how much water each was likely to need per day, and work backwards to the size of dripper needed and the minutes of irrigation. (I was using one timer for both areas so wanted a uniform watering time.) I also did the layout on a piece of graph paper to make sure we had enough distribution line and drippers in the sizes needed.
The system itself was simple to install, once I figured out the pieces needed for each plant. The 1/2" distribution hose is quite stiff, however, even after letting it lie in the sun for an hour as suggested in the kit. My husband helped with the layout, and we staked down each section as we laid it with the U-shaped pins included. Likewise, it was easier to punch holes in the line to insert drippers once it was firmly staked down.
The kit is versatile--you can adapt it to many layouts of garden beds, plants in pots, or areas with a mix of trees, shrubs, and plants. Rain Bird offers extra parts, too. It even has "goof plugs" to plug holes in the 1/2" line in case you make a mistake or change your mind about a dripper.
Finally, Rain Bird offers excellent customer service to homeowners. I must have called four times to ask about which kit to buy (this one), whether I could use a Y-connector at the hose bib (yes), whether I could use one time to water two zones (yes, with a T-junction in the distribution line), and in what order to install the timer, backflow preventer, and pressure regulator at the hose bib. There were no long wait times on the phone, and the reps were patient, helpful, and encouraging.
We're very happy with our system and highly recommend this kit and the Rain Bird Electronic Hose Timer.

Fairly easy to set up, tho you will probably need to buy the Drip Irrigation Repair and Expansion Kit for more coverage and drip ends or buying individual parts separately. Works beautifully after three weeks of use. Saved the garden while on vacation and definitely saves on water use.
