Maxi-Paw Pop-Up Impact Sprinkler

A:  Rain Bird offers two canister impact sprinkler models, the Maxi-Paw (model # AG-5) and Mini-Paw (model # LG-3). The Maxi-Paw has a 3-1/2" pop-up height; spray distance from 24' to 45’; full (360°) or partial circle (20° to 340°) coverage with infinite pattern adjustment; combination 1/2" or 3/4" bottom inlet and 1/2" side female connections for more installation flexibility. Conversely, the Mini-Paw has a 3" pop-up height; spray distance of 25' to 36'; full (360°) or partial circle (20° to 340°) coverage with infinite pattern adjustment; 1/2" bottom and side inlets. A:  according to their website they sell the Rain Bird Maxi-paw AG58PK. they also have a generic pop-up impulse sprinkler along with the Rain Bird Mini-paw LG-3

A:  It depends on what is broken. Many times the springs that handle the arms wear out and sometimes the flanges that control the positioning of the head wear out as well. Sometimes you can replace the interior portion and leave the cup in the ground. There is a tool that you can purchase at Home Depot for unscrewing them from the cup and replacing the guts. Personally, I usually replace the entire unit because by the time it wears out, the lawn has grown up to the point where it doesn't shoot the water correctly. So I have to raise it. You can also buy connections that will allow you to do that as well at Home Depot.

A:  While there are subtle differences, namely dimensions and throw distance, the primary ones are that the Maxi-Paw features a combination 1/2" or 3/4" bottom, and 1/2" side female connections for greater flexibility. Conversely, the Mini-Paw has a 1/2" female connection at side or bottom. Also, the Maxi-Paw is a 3-1/2" pop-up to clear tall grass, whereas the Mini-Paw has 3" pop-up height. A:  The Maxi-Paw is an upgraded Mini-Paw rotor head. Unlike the Mini-Paw, the Maxi-Paw has a decent selection of available nozzles, which allows for better system design.

A:  This unit comes with the blue nozzle pre-installed, and includes five extra nozzles to customize watering rate.
