These closed cell rubber sponge sheets are made from a combination of neoprene and SBR (styrene butadiene rubber). Sponge rubber is also referred to as cellular or foam rubber. It takes these names because numerous air pockets are dispersed throughout the rubber material, making it softer and easier to compress than a piece of solid rubber. Because these air pockets excel at trapping and dissipating kinetic energy, rubber sponge demonstrates great shock absorbency and sees use in applications for energy absorption and protective rubber padding. These air pockets also ensure that sponge rubber transmits heat at a slower rate compared to solid rubber, making it a suitable material for heat insulation. Due to the sealed nature of the air pockets in closed cell sponge rubber, this material has a higher compressive strength than open cell sponge and retains its shape more effectively. This attribute of closed cell sponge makes it preferable to open cell sponge in padding applications where a rubber piece must maintain its structure while still absorbing kinetic energy. The isolated air pockets in closed cell rubber also make the material far less porous than open cell, preventing the material from absorbing water. Combined with the water-resistant nature of SBR and neoprene rubber materials, this closed cell blended rubber often sees use in aquatic and gasketing applications.

Hello Sean, Thank you for your question! While the Closed Cell Sponge Rubber Blend sheets offers good shock absorption in lighter-duty applications, it is not recommended for use under deck tiles on a roof. Over time, repeated compression from the weight and movement of the deck tiles can cause the sponge material to lose its ability to rebound, reducing its effectiveness as a protective layer. For your application, a more durable material such as our recycled rubber rolls would be a better fit. These are designed to handle heavier loads and provide long-term protection in similar environments. Please note that we do not offer a method for permanently joining sheets or strips of our materials, so any seams would need to be aligned manually. Please let us know if you’d like more information on our recycled rubber options or help selecting the best material for your project! Best, Robert Morris, Rubber-Cal Inc.
Hello Brad, Thank you for your question! The Closed Cell Sponge Rubber Blend Black Foam Rubber Sheet can be used as an underlay for artificial grass. While it has a sponge-like texture, it should provide effective support as long as proper drainage and stability are maintained. If you have any further questions, please feel free to reach out! Best, Robert Morris, Rubber-Cal Inc.
Hello Georgio, Thank you for your inquiry! Rubber-Cal Closed Cell Sponge Rubber Blend and Neoprene sheets are both types of rubber materials used for various applications. While they share some similarities, they also have differences: Material Composition: Rubber-Cal Closed Cell Sponge Rubber Blend: This product typically consists of a blend of rubber materials, including synthetic and natural rubber. It's designed to have a closed-cell structure, meaning the cells within the material are not interconnected, which results in a material that is impermeable to air and moisture. Neoprene Sheet: Neoprene is a type of synthetic rubber that is specifically known for its resistance to various elements, including oil, UV radiation, and weather. Neoprene is a type of closed-cell rubber. Unfortunately we do not sell our adhesive backed products on Home Depot. In order to adhere the rubber sheet to itself or other materials, we recommend using a polyurethane-based adhesive. Hope this helps! Sincerely, Robert Morris Rubber-Cal, Inc.
Hello, No, the Rubber-Cal Closed Cell Sponge Rubber Blend 1/8 in. x 39 in. x 78 in. Black Foam Rubber Sheet will not be a good to put under a power rack/function trainer. Sponge rubber is not suitable for flooring purposes. It would fully compress with that amount of weight on it and it is not abrasion resistant. It is best to use our Elephant Bark for this application. If its only purpose is floor protection, the thinnest thickness will work, which is 3/16". Elephant Bark Rubber Flooring is designed to withstand the most abrasive conditions. It is designed for heavy-duty commercial applications as it is made from recycled rubber. A rolled rubber flooring product made from 100% recycled US rubber. Elephant Bark provides excellent UV protection due to its high content of EPDM, making this matting excellent for indoor and outdoor purposes. Sincerely, Robert Morris
Hello, The Closed Cell Foam Rubber sheet would work for this application. Unfortunately, we do not have a glue recommendation to apply it to your dashboard; however, you may secure it with double-sided tape. I hope this answer helps! Sincerely, Robert Morris Rubber-Cal, Inc.
I am sorry to hear that this item does not meet your price expectations. We price our products competitively against other rubber material providers. Unfortunately, we are not expecting to update the price of this item as of today. Thank you, Rubber-Cal, Inc.
This product will hold up over a longer period of time, but eventually will start showing signs of environmental related weathering such as discoloration and cracks.
Yes you can cut this material with the help of a utility knife and a straightedge ruler.
