Questions & Answers

Can this be used to repair a scratch on the back side of a mirror?
ByJan 8, 2025
1 Answer |
Answer This Question

Glad to answer that, Ben! Rust-Oleum Specialty Metallic Spray paint can be used on wood, metal and other surfaces, like glass, but it will not give a mirror like finish so we would not recommend it to repair a scratch on the back side of a mirror. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 15

    Can I use in chrome?

    Answer This Question

Happy to clear things up! Rust-Oleum Specialty Metallic Spray Paint can be applied to interior metal and chrome surfaces. To ensure full adhesion, we do recommend lightly sanding the surface and priming with Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Universal Bonding Primer Spray. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-Stops-Rust-12-oz-Universal-Bonding-Primer-Spray-6-Pack-285011/205926957 - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

Can I use this to paint the exterior of my brass shower door? Just the trim not the glass
        BySep 24, 2024
        1 Answer |
        Answer This Question

Thank you for reaching out. While Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Metallic Spray Paint can be applied to interior metal surfaces, we do not recommend applying to any part of a shower. This amount of exposure to humidity will cause the paint to blister and peel. -Rust-Oleum Product Support 14

Can this be used on plastic surfaces? I have a vintage lamp base that I would like to freshen-up... Thank-you.

          Answer This Question

Thank you for reaching out, Jenn. Rust-Oleum Specialty Metallic Spray Paint can not be applied directly to plastic surfaces as it will not properly adhere. Instead, we recommend first priming the surface using Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Universal Bonding Primer as it will provide a great base coat that adheres to plastic. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-Stops-Rust-12-oz-Universal-Bonding-Primer-Spray-6-Pack-285011/205926957 -Rust-Oleum Product Support 14

            Answer This Question

Thank you for reaching out. Rust-Oleum Specialty Metallic Spray Paint can be applied to metal surfaces that will not exceed 200° F. If the surface will exceed 200° F we recommend applying our Rust-Oleum Specialty High Heat Ultra Paint as it can withstand up to 1200° F. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-Specialty-12-oz-High-Heat-Ultra-Semi-Gloss-Silver-Spray-Paint-270201/203815372 -Rust-Oleum Product Support 14

Can I spray this onto wine glasses?
              ByJul 31, 2024
              1 Answer |
              Answer This Question

Thank you for reaching out. While Rust-Oleum Specialty Metallic Spray Paint can be applied to a variety of surfaces, it will not adhere properly to glass. This will cause the paint to peel easily. This paint also is not considered to be food safe so we would not recommend applying to surfaces that are directly exposed to your mouth or lips. -Rust-Oleum Product Support 14

How to remove from vinyl wood? What to use?
                ByJul 21, 2024
                1 Answer |
                Answer This Question

Happy to help. Rust-Oleum Specialty Metallic Spray Paint can either be removed chemically or physically by either striping the paint or by sanding the surface. To ensure the paint stripper will not damage your wood we recommend removing by sanding the surface. -Rust-Oleum Product Support 14

The coverage was great. I painted a black chandelier metallic gold. The color was good, not a metallic shine. Overall I’m ok with how it turned out. I would buy again.

                  Horrible Spray Paint
The silver spray paint did not perform as it supposed to have. From the picture you can see the rubbed off spray paint. I allowed the item to remain outside drying past the time on the can to ensure it adheres to the product. The shine wasn’t there like the cap on the can. Make your decision from this.

It really is a good gold colored spray on!
We looked at a lot of golds, and the customer added images helped so much :) For our attic recovered vintage frame, it was perfection in the restoration, very happy with this product :)

Holy cow! The best gold spray paint I've ever used. It shined amazing, WAY better than other gold paints I had been using. In fact, I had painted 2 projects with 2 different gold paints a few days apart, and even my kids agreed that this is the shiny gold they were hoping for. The spray was consistent and didn't sputter either. No doubt, I'll buy more cans of this.

Used this paint to rehab some old brass plated headboards since closest finish to polished brass. Went on very well. However, not so sure if it is adhering as well as it should since I didn’t prime it or anything and it does seem like it comes off a bit on your hands when touching it even though dry. Looks great in meantime but we will see how wears.
