Answer

Happy to help, JP! Since the Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Bright Coat Metallic Spray Paints contain leafing pigments, these coatings will tarnish and fade if exposed to the outdoor elements. For a metallic finish on exterior surfaces, we recommend Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Metallic Protective Spray Paint instead. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-Stops-Rust-11-oz-Metallic-Copper-Protective-Spray-Paint-6-Pack-7273830/204157710 - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

Let's see what we can figure out. Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Bright Coat Metallic Spray Paint contains a unique leafing metallic pigment that gives this paint its brilliant impression. The cleaner acted as a solvent, weakening the film. You can use fine sandpaper to remove the cleaner and any loose paint, then apply another coat of Copper. While a clear coating can be applied for added protection, we typically do not recommend this as the clear coat will mute the brilliance of the leafing pigment. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 6

Can this be used on nightstand drawer handles?

Asked by VictoriaWolfe November 6, 2018
1
Answer

Happy to clear things up! Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Bright Coat Spray is not recommended for application to door or drawer handles. Some of our metallic spray paints, including Bright Coat, are leafing-pigment paints. They get their metallic look by having metal flakes poke up through the surface of the paint. With sufficient rubbing these flakes can be broken off, which may come off on your hands or on clothing. Instead of using the Bright Coat, consider Rust-Oleum Universal Paint and Primer in One in Metallic Copper Rose! https://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-Universal-11-oz-All-Surface-Metallic-Copper-Rose-Spray-Paint-and-Primer-in-One-314559/300472124 - Rust-Oleum Product Support 4

Can I use this on a refrigerator or a stove?

Asked by Shyaam November 4, 2018

Answers

Happy to clear things up. Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Bright Coat Spray is suitable for surfaces that will not exceed 200ºF. This coating also cannot be exposed to direct heat or flames as it will cause the paint to crack and peel off. For this reason, we don't recommend this product for a stove. Keep in mind that this product is for decorative use only and will wear quickly in high traffic areas like appliances. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 5

Happy to help! Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Bright Coat Metallic Spray Paint is suitable for use on surfaces that reach temperatures up to 200°F. Please keep in mind that this product contains leafing pigments and is intended for use on decorative surfaces since rubbing of the surface can cause the coating to fade. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

So far so good
So far, I am very happy with this product, but I have only had it for a couple of days so I will update this review if I find it is not durable or if there are any other issues. I sprayed a plant stand and a pot and they look beautiful. They are outdoors in a semi-sheltered patio so that will be test of its durability. It was easy to use and I was able to apply a second coat in less than 24 hours without any discernible problems. It is a lovely color with lots of shine. If it holds up well outdoors, I plan to use it on other metal structures such as a trellis and some hanging baskets. In any case, the chicken likes it. ;) I may take a tip from another reviewer (Matthitect) and spray a clear, protective clear lacquer coat over it.

I use a lot of Rust-oleum stop rust spray paints when I am making Christmas decorations and when I saw this paint I thought it would be a nice addition to what I am making this year. The color is very nice and I am glad I got it. There are some things you should know about this one that is different than the others I have worked with. First when I say I have worked with a lot of their colors, I am guessing maybe 15 different ones in the past year, to include other metallic colors. This one seems to go on wetter, there for is more prone to dripping, this one takes longer to dry to the point you can handle them, like silver and gold I can normally at least handle within an hour, two at max, the copper had to sit over night. I am still happy with the out come, you just need to be aware it is a bit different. It helps a little if you just apply multiple light coats over just one or two heavy coats.

This paint has a nice shiny copper sheen to it, but you have to put in on fairly wet to get it. If you use very light coats, you get a dusted finish. In my experience, you want to let it dry for 24 hours before touching or handling it. Even after that, I wouldn't use any kind of sticky masking on it because it will ruin the paint. You would probably have to wait a week. I let mine dry 48 hours and the finish still wasn't as durable as I expected. I coated it with a fast drying clear lacquer spray to enhance the sheen and protect the paint.

Thank you for sharing your experience using our Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Bright Coat Copper Metallic Spray Paint! We expect each can of this product to cover approximately 4-6 ft², however, the porosity of the surface and thickness of the application will affect the coverage. The paint should be dry to the touch after one hour, and a clear coat is not recommended with our Bright Coat spray paints, since this may darken and dull the finish. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 2 Rustoleum

This paint looks beautiful--at first! I bought this copper paint for the nose cone and upper airframe of a high power sport rocket my son and I plan to a launch with our local rocket club. I sprayed the copper over 2 cotes of Rustoleum flat white primer that I had wet-sanded with 800 grit (and thoroughly dried) for a smooth paint surface over the fiberglass airframe. It went on mirror smooth and I was careful not to let anything touch it for a solid 24 hours while it dried. The next day when I went to mask off the copper to paint another section a different color, not only did the blue painters tape mar the mirror finish around the paint line, but the brown paper (which isn't even adhesive) had stuck to the paint and peeled some of it off down to the primer! This paint is so fragile that I didn't even get a chance to clear cote over it before it was ruined. I can't see it holding up for anything useful, unless it's something decorative that you never plan to touch. Very disappointing.

Response from Rust-OleumSupportMar 22, 2018
Let's talk through this, Phil! Please keep in mind that Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Bright Coat Metallic Finish Spray is fully dry in 48 hours and achieves maximum durability when it fully cures in 7 days. When using painter's tape, we recommend removing it immediately after you have applied the final topcoat to avoid removing any dried paint. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 5 Rustoleum

I chose this paint for my project car. I needed a paint that would withstand the abuse of an automobile engine compartment. The paint went on nice and smooth and shinny. It does have copper flakes in it so to get a smoother finish I was able to just rub with a soft cloth to get a nice shine. I like the spray nozzle, wide and you don't get paint on your fingers or hand. The finish looks great and I am very pleased with the finish.

I was looking for something that would give a copper shine to various objects and this paint fit the bill. It can be used on a variety of materials which is always good as I dont want to keep many different kinds of paint some something like this. The copper color came out looking looking great and I had no issue with any clogged nozzels. The feather particularly was well coated and the paint really stuck to it. Being an enamel you can use it on metal and get a great result. Overall super happy with this product and the copper color it produced.

This protective copper metallic spray paint from RUST - OLEUM is nice way to add the look of copper to new or old items and is a close match to actual copper items such as kitchen fixtures, weather vanes, metal roof of a cupola, etc. You can save money by not having to buy actual copper items or items that are copper coated from a retail store. The Bright Coat 11 oz. Metallic Spray Paint has the same rust preventative formula as other Rust - Oleum spray paints and can be used indoors or outdoors on wood, metal and even some types of plastics. I wanted to add the look of copper to the covers of a metal military ammo can and a small plastic water resistant storage container so I sprayed the covers with this enamel copper spray paint. Both covers came out looking good and surprisingly the plastic cover has the better copper look. I am looking for more items I can use this paint on and plan on getting other metallic colors for future projects.

Gives a nice, light copper, shiny metallic finish. I wanted to color-test this prior to using, so I quickly sprayed a couple of coats on a tin can (see pic below--ignore the spots--it was drizzling slighty!). I do like this color, compared to another brand's copper, which is darker. I had a bit of nozzle clogging, which is always frustrating, but that does tend to happen with spray paint.
