Awesome, awesome screw - I love these style of screws and use the interior ones all the time. These sink in easily and the T-star head never slips. The washer head sucks the wood to what you are drilling into without having to use a washer. I am a huge fan of these and grab these over galvanized lag screws every time. These hold weight well. I used these to attach the legs to a planter box I made which was probably overkill but these are what I had on hand. I pre-drilled the holes but I don't know that it was necessary for what I was doing. I also like using these because I can keep using the T-style bits that are already in my drill for other screws so I don't have to change bits and carry multiple bits on me (which I lose all the time).

Went through a treated 4x4 easily with a corded drill (DWE1014). I pulled the trigger 5 times for each screw and they advanced about 1.2 inches at a time (per second).

SPAX screws with Torx heads screws are great for construction
Yes a nail will hold most of the time, but, I encourage you to try these screws, because it allows you to build so easily by yourself. Phillips head screws are not the same as TORX. You can use one hand to hold the drill with TORX bit, and one hand/shoot shoot the entire screw length. While using your other hand to hold the board on the mark. EASY! Then, if you need to change what you just put together...by any slight measure or correction...you can easily take all you just did apart. You can't do that using nails.

      Strip very easily
These screws are worthless. The heads strip VERY easily. Do not even think about driving this without a pilot hole. Even with a pilot hole, I stripped two of them - stuck half way in. Spent 20 minutes extracting with vice grips. POORLY engineered.

All the Spax stuff is great. I haven’t been disappointed with any spax purchase I’ve ever made. They can be pricier then other brands but they perform exceptionally.

        Terrible Lags! The heads strip!
I purchased these to attach a 4x4 to a 4x4 and really liked the claim about not needing to pre-drill. That's a LIE! I stripped out the heads of three of these pretty quickly and it was a lengthy process to use vice grips to get them back out. Once I started pre-drilling the holes, I had better luck, but still started to strip them. So I returned them and got some more to try and finish the job. This time I pre-drilled all holes and was able to finally get the task done, but these CHEAP lags cost me a LOT of extra time. I also still ended up with one totally stripped - even with the pre-drilling. The next size up uses a larger Torx head and comes with a bit and they worked MUCH better, but I still had some close calls with stripping out the heads. I will NEVER buy this brand again and I strongly suggest that you avoid these at all cost!
