Q:I want to join an elbow and a flange and I need to have as close a fit as possible. will a 1/4" x 1/4" nipple work?

A: Thank you for your inquiry. If you have a 1/2" elbow and a 1/2" flange, then the 1/2" close connector will join them as closely as possible. However, a 1/4" connector will not join 1/2" fittings.

A: Umm, this is not going to be a quick thing. It is my understanding that "black pipe" is measured by the interior diameter of the tubing in question, so in this case, 1/2 inch. If you are looking to use this for something NOT standard and need a specific ID, this is not going to be completely reliable. When the manufacture makes this tubing, during the threading process there is considerable pressure put into the tubing to create the taper that creates the seal. I am not sure i have explained that completely, nor have I done a good job keeping it simple. I would be glad to open a conversation if you need something specific in this, but I know not how to help you further. Good day !

A: Thank you for your inquiry. The length of the nipple is 1.25 inches. Black pipe is not for use with water, galvanized pipe is used for water applications.

A: Yes to the safe with the brass water supply, but a reaction is possible, more on that in a sec. But no on the 1 inch long part. This nipple will be what I refer to as a close. Meaning, the two fittings on either side of it will be VERY close to touching each other. Put a bit more than normal hutzpah on it, and this nipple will entirely disappear. One thing just noticed, this is a black pipe connector or nipple. You need to use galvanized. Black pipe is more commonly used in Gas line installations. Please refer to some one more knowledgable as far as reactions between Brass and Galvanized parts. there is a goop or potion of some sort used to help eliminate the possible reactions.
