Q:NPK rating for the fertilizer?
by|Sep 15, 2024
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for contacting us. The nutrient ratio content for Scotts Turf Builder Sun & Shade PhysBlend Mix is 4-0-0. This is the percentage of the products weight that is nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K). Nitrogen, the first number, makes grass and plants grow and become greener. Phosphorus, the second number, stimulates root and seedling development. Potassium, the third number, promotes disease and drought tolerance.

          Goose grass or weeds??
I seeded with this in an area that had digging done for my patio. I’m not sure what this is but it looks terrible and the texture is terrible. It looks like an entire patch of weeds. I don’t have this anywhere in my lawn except where I put this product. Now I have to dig it up, buy different seed and start again. Waste of time and money.

We're sorry to read about your disappointment with Scotts Turf Builder Sun & Shade PhysBlend Mix and appreciate your feedback.

It is normal to have some weeds germinate when seeding. There are approximately 10,000 weed seeds per 1 cubic foot of native soil. Soil preparation brings weed seeds to the surface. All Scotts seed is thoroughly cleaned and is 99.9% weed seed free. Our grass seed is harvested in June/July, well before the time of crabgrass maturity which occurs during late summer when it sets seed. Therefore it's not possible our crop can be contaminated with crabgrass seeds. Weed seeds can be blown or carried into area prior to grass seed becoming established.

            DO NOT BUY
Home Depot should stop selling Scott’s brand. I bought a 33 lbs bag to reseed small lawn in the front of about 400 sq ft. I followed the instructions, thinly topped off the area with a layer of soil, been watering twice. It has been 10 days now and not even a single grass seed has germinated. I don’t even know if these are real grass seeds or some crap coated in blue color. I feel like getting robbed and tossing $129 in a trash.

I had lost about 3/4 of my lawn. I really didn’t want to sod it, I thought it would take to long to grow. After following the instructions, and wouldn’t you in 3 weeks my lawn was full of grass, Scott’s turf builder is the best and will not cost you an arm and leg.

                Great for patching
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We used this grass seed to patch some areas that didn’t grow previously. We aerated, added the seed, and added straw on top. We watered everyday and within two weeks or so you could see the grass shoots starting to fill in.

Grass grows where others before it failed
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I tried growing grass in a very shady location a few times previously with no luck, but this product did what previously seemed impossible. My backyard is mostly shade and mostly clay, so it's a tough task to grow in new areas. I had others more knowledgeable tell me I'd never grow grass in this particular location but this stuff did the trick It says it includes a ground treatment in addition to a growth fertilizer. I have many other shady areas and will definitely use this seed in the future. The picture shown is after about 3 weeks of growth. It's still coming in thicker every few days.

                    Did not work
Followed all instructions, did not produce any grass. Disappointed in the time, effort and money spent.

We're sorry to read about your disappointment with Turf Builder Grass Seed Dense Shade Mix and appreciate your feedback. For cool season grasses (Bluegrass/Rye/Fescues) soil temperatures must be at least 55℉ for grass seed to germinate. This means that the daytime temperatures must consistently be above 65℉. For warm season grasses (Bermudagrass/Centipede/Zoysia/Bahia) soil temperatures must be between 75℉ and 90℉. Cool or fluctuating nighttime temperatures will slow germination. Both excessive moisture and not enough moisture can inhibit germination. Germination times vary by seed type. We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers. At your earliest convenience, please reach out to us at 888-270-3714 if we can further assist.
                      Beautiful Lawn
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I lost my lawn totally last year from extreme drought. I used Scotts sun and shade last fall and seed for dense shade this spring. The lawn is filling in all over and looks great. I love the dark green texture of the different type of seed.

Turf Builder tall Fescue mix delivers as promised!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We had many bad spots in our yard where grass just would not grow. After tilling up the ground we applied Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Tall Fescue Mix and so far are pleased with the results. The grass has taken root, just as the product promised. It has just started growing but we expect it to fully cover the bare spots. A before picture is posted; with all the recent rain we expect a full yard of good grass before Spring turns to Summer in the South.

                          Solid results
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used this product to overseed my front lawn. I prepped my yard as directed. My spreader dispersed the seed mix with ease, providing an even spread. I watered as directed. The seed began to sprout at 11 days. The grass looks healthy and it should start filling in my lawn nicely.
