Q:I have deep shade and dogs running around. Grass dies by late summer. Bare dirt now. Would it be best to apply a hardy fall seed like this now and overseed in Feb./March with dense shade seed or just go with dense shade seed now?

A: If you area is dense shade that is then the Scotts Turf Builder Dense Shade Mix would be best for the area. It is too late at this time to apply seed. Recommended temperature for planting of grass seed is when the air temperature consistently 60-85 degrees with soil temperature consistently 55- 60 degrees.

A: Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Fall Mix can be spread in a Scotts Rotary spreader at a setting of 131/2 for a new lawn and 61/2 for overseeding. If using a Scotts drop spreader use setting 121/2 for new seeding and 8 for overseeding.

I've been doing wrong

For the last several years I've been overseeding every fall with tall fescue and only tall fescue because that's what some guy told me to use and come springtime my lawn looked just ok. I thought I was doing something wrong and wanted better results. Turns out a little bit of perennials rye, creeping red fescue and a touch of that Kentucky blue really thrives in my area. I can honestly say because of this grass seed my lawn has never looked better. before purchasing this grass seed, I tested out a couple different Scotts grass seeds in small flowerpots with soil from my yard and the fall mix outperformed the other grass seed.

No Grass

I applied this seed 10 days ago after dethaching aerating and top dressing with compost. Day 10 and still not a blade of grass has popped up. Very disappointed with this product and will not rely on “fall seed mix” again.

Very disappointed

Bought a bag of Scott's fall grass seed. In the northeast best time to get your lawn ready for winter and next spring around mid September. After de-thaching, aerating, and fertilizing the soil I put a good amount of seed down. So so upset to see all my hard work was ruined by this Scott's fall seed. As you can see, from what did come up its mostly cloves (weeds)! Now what? I'll have to either try to rip it all out now or wait till spring. This might be the last time I buy Scott's.
