Do I need to mow before application? If not then How long after application can I mow

Answer This Question

Mow tall grass a day or two before the application of Scotts Turf Builder Bonus S Southern Weed & Feed2. Mowing can be done any time after the product has been watered in and allowed to dry. If applying in the spring, do not apply until the lawn is actively growing and been mowed at least 3 times.

Can I apply right after a raining day or should I wait till the next day or a few day after rain?
    ByApr 3, 2025
    1 Answer |
    Answer This Question

Hi and thanks for asking! Scotts Turf Builder Bonus S Southern Weed & Feed2 must be applied to a dry lawn, as it needs to be able to fall down to ground level. Then, water the product in IMMEDIATELY after the application (do not let it sit on the grass blades). Apply enough water to rinse granules off the grass blades and down into the soil (approximately 1/2 inch of water (30 minutes with your average sprinkler) or apply just before it rains and let the rain do the job). Be aware that if temperatures are above 80 degrees, damage can occur if the product is not immediately watered.

Will too much rain wash it away?
          ByApr 2, 2025

          Answer This Question

We recommend 1/2 inch of rain or water after an application of Turf Builder Bonus S Southern Weed & Feed2. If you are expecting heavy rains we would recommend waiting until after the rain to apply this. Heavy rains can diminish the effectiveness. Hello. We apologize for any confusion. Scotts Turf Builder Bonus S Southern Weed & Feed2 must be watered in immediately after application. We suggest applying enough water to rinse the granules off the grass blades and down into the soil; which is approximately 1/2 inch of water or about 30 minutes with your average sprinkler. You can also apply it just before it rains.

We're sorry to read about your disappointment with Scotts Turf Builder Bonus S and appreciate your feedback. Temperatures must be consistently (several days in a row) between 60°F and 90°F for target weeds to be actively growing. Low or high temperatures will delay weed control. It can take up to 3 weeks for the weeds to begin to yellow. This product does not prevent new weed development only kills weeds that were actively growing at the time of application. Scotts Turf Builder Bonus S can be reapplied in 6 to 8 weeks. We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee. If for any reason you, the consumer, are not satisfied with the results after using this product, you are entitled to get your money back. Limitations apply. We are sorry to read about your experience with the Scotts Turf Builder Bonus S Southern Weed & Feed2. It can take up to 3 weeks for the weeds to start yellowing, so hang in there! This product needs a good drink to work its magic. Make sure you water it in well after applying. Those weeds need to be actively growing for the product to do its thing. Consistent temperatures between 60-90°F for a few days in a row are ideal. If it's too cold or too hot, things might slow down a bit. This product only controls the weeds listed on the label. If you're not sure what you're dealing with, it might be a weed that's not on the list. The results are incredible
We used Bonus S for about 20 years at our old house with excellent results. We built a new house in 2023, and let’s say we neglected our lawn a bit. It is about 1 acre of Floratam sod. I treated on Jan 3rd and ran out of product. It is now Feb 16th and that portion of the lawn looks great - it is greener and fuller with virtually no new weed. There is some weed here and there but few and that I plucked. I could see the line of demarcation. The results are incredible. I treated the remainder yesterday. Hopefully, it is not too late. The only thing I can think of is that the negative reviews are from competitors and subscription lawn services.

If you received the pictures, this is what my lawn has looked like for the last few years using Bonus S for southern lawns. I’m sorry to say that this will not be the case anymore, for we can no longer afford to buy the 4 10000 square foot bags to do this.

                            Scott’s Bonus S- 2025
I purchase a bag of Bonus S (10, 000 sq ft ) for my my St Augustine lawn in Florida that had dollar weed, applied Jan8 and watered immediately after application. As of Feb 2 it did nothing to kill the dollar weed much less other weeds that start growing this time of year. Something seriously wrong with this product

Response from Customer CareFeb 4, 2025
We're sorry to read about your disappointment with Scotts Bonus S and appreciate your feedback. For the best results, we recommend that Scotts Turf Builder Bonus S Southern Weed & Feed2 is applied to a dry lawn when the temperatures are consistently above 60°F. Be sure to water the product in after application. This is especially important when daytime temperatures are above 85°F. We recommend that weeds not be mowed for two days both before and after the product application. If the weeds you are battling have been growing in your lawn for several months, they may be mature - you can tell this if the weed has already flowered for the season. Mature weeds will need multiple applications to be controlled by any herbicide. The sooner in the growing season that you can treat the weeds in your lawn, the better your results will be. If follow-up applications are needed, you can apply a second application of Scotts Turf Builder Bonus S Southern Weed & Feed2 8 weeks after your initial application. Also, please keep in mind Scotts Turf Builder Bonus S Southern Weed & Feed2 only controls those weeds it is registered to control. If the weed you are trying to control is not listed on the label, please let us know what the weed is and we will see if we have a product you can use to control that weed. If you are unsure of the identity of the weed, we recommend taking a sample of it to a reputable garden center for identification. We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee. If for any reason you, the consumer, are not satisfied with the results after using this product, you are entitled to get your money back. Limitations apply. At your earliest convenience, please reach out to us at 888-270-3714 if we can further assist.

Response from Customer CareDec 19, 2024
We're sorry to read about your disappointment with Scotts Bonus S and appreciate your feedback. Dollarweed/Pennywort is difficult to control, particularly if the lawn is being watered too much or excessive rain can drive the weed control into the soil and away from weed roots. Most turf grasses only need 1 inch of water a week. Typically watering 1/2 inch twice a week will be sufficient for turf grass, while dollar weed thrives when there is excess water. This will only apply if you have a St. Augustine lawn. If dollarweed is growing in a St. Augustine lawn, reduce watering to once every two weeks. The St. Augustine grass will survive nicely without water but the dollarweed will be weakened. Once weakened, it is more susceptible to weed control products. After treating the dollarweed go back to watering only 2 times a week with ½ inch of water. You may reapply in 6 to 8 weeks and you can use appropriate Ortho Weed B Gon product to spot treat most remaining weeds.

Used in Dallas, Texas precisely per all instructions (amount of product, watering - when and how much, temperature…). Applied twice over three month period. It did NOT kill the clover, in fact, the clover is healthier than ever!

Hi Judy. We're sorry to read about your disappointment with Scotts Turf Builder Bonus S Southern Weed & Feed2
                                and appreciate your feedback.

Scotts Turf Builder Bonus S Southern Weed & Feed2 only controls listed weeds. Temperatures must be consistently (several days in a row) between 60-90°F for target weeds to be actively growing. Low or high temperatures will delay weed control. It can take up to 3 weeks for the weeds to begin to yellow. This product does not prevent new weed development. It only kills weeds that were actively growing at the time of application. Product must be watered in to be effective. Excessive watering (rain) can drive the weed control into the soil and away from weed roots. Water lightly (¼ to ½ inch of water) right after use, to activate the weed control and feeding then cut back on watering. When temperatures are high (over 90°+) weeds slow their growth down and can not absorb the product. If weeds are not getting regular watering they can not absorb product.

We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee. If for any reason you, the consumer, are not satisfied with the results after using this product, you are entitled to get your money back. Limitations apply.
