Q:Can I use this product on my shady front lawn?
    by|May 19, 2024
    1 Answer
    Answer This Question

A:  Scotts Turf Builder High Traffic Mix is not a recommended seed mix for shady areas. It is a blend of Kentucky blue/ryegrass/fescue. Shade tolerance: Bluegrass - depends on variety (poor-fair); Perennial Ryegrass - not tolerant but can be a temporary cover for about 1 year in shaded areas; Tall Fescue - fair to good. Even shade-tolerant grass must have at least 4 hours of sunlight. If the area receives less than 4 hours of sun each day, growing grass is impossible. Consider pruning to thin trees or raising the canopy to increase sunlight. If not possible, consider planting shade-tolerant groundcovers such as pachysandra or vinca. Use Scotts shade-tolerant seed mixes, but remember they need at least 4 hours of sunlight daily.

Q:Good Morning Again, or should I consider another type of grass seeds for the dogs? I just read that sometimes the Tall Fescue grass/seeds can cause allergic reactions. Should I try Bluegrass, Zoysia, and/or Bermuda instead. 3rd of 3 emails sent this morn

        Answer This Question

A:  When used according to label instructions, this product poses no health risks. Pets, such as dogs and cats may return to the lawn immediately after the application. Traffic on the lawn should be limited until the new grass germinates and has time to become established.

          Very Impressive
I have 2 large dogs who love to run and chase eachother. In just a little over 1 years time they have turned my yard into a mud zone. After doing much research of all the different grass seed on the market and reading reviews, I chose Scott’s High traffic seed and hoped for the best!! Well in just 2 weeks after spending a full day tilling, placing the grass seed down, adding some top soil and watering daily, the results are amazing!! Would highly recommend this product for anyone with pets, kids or high traffic areas. Thank you Scott’s!!

              So good
I had bare ga clay. I seeded and covered with hay. I watered every day and it looks amazing. If you use and water as needed then this is guaranteed to work. You have to put in the time and effort. I will be buying this to over-seed every year.

Not Grass, Lol. My Lawn is Ruined.
I bought bags of this seed with the goal of overseeding our front and backyard lawn, and filling in some dog and gopher-related gaps. Prior to using this, we had fairly decent grass. The kind you could walk barefoot in. After using this, we have all kinds of clovers and weeds shooting up everywhere we threw seed down. I do recognize some of the “stalky” looking grass as seeding so that’s fine, but the clovers are EVERYWHERE. Disappointing.

This product is great. Using it to grow grass from areas of sod that had died. Grass is coming in nicely.

                  I have high hopes!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I haven't had a chance to use this product yet, due to some wacky spring weather, but I'm really looking forward seeing how it works. There are a few high-traffic places in the yard that are also a bit shady, so I'm really hoping this is the solution that will make those areas lush. I am looking forward to updating this review after a few more months!

                    Spring green looking good!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Our lawn is off to a great start this spring! My son put this seed down in the fall and it’s coming on strong and looking great. Some thin spots were loosened up a bit and seeded. Then the whole yard was over seeded well.

Thicker green grass the best it's looked in awhile
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is the best my yards looked in years. No more bare spots. Eazy to use just spread the seed out and let it grow. Nice thick grass and little to no weeds. Strong thick grass that's last all summer long.

Works great for kids and pets!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have used the grass for over seeding in the past and works great and holds up to kids and pets (foot traffic). I am currently trying it on areas where I had trees removed and will give addition feed back once the grass starts growing in the bare areas.
