About This Product

It's simple: treat weeds and feed your lawn with Scotts Turf Builder WinterGuard Fall Weed & FeedI in the fall for a better lawn next spring. This weed killer plus lawn fertilizer controls listed lawn weeds, including clover, dandelion, plantain, buckhorn, and henbit. In addition, it delivers the nutrients needed to help repair damage from the summertime and build strong roots to take on harsh winter conditions. Apply Scotts Turf Builder WinterGuard Fall Weed & FeedI on a calm day when weeds are actively growing and temperatures are consistently between 60°F and 90°F. Make sure your grass is wet from dew or sprinkling, as this helps particles adhere to weed leaves to produce the best results. We recommend using a Scotts spreader to apply this product. For Scotts broadcast/rotary spreaders, use a setting of 3 ¼. For Scotts drop spreaders, use a setting of 6. Do not water your lawn for 24 hours after application or apply if rain is expected within the next 24 hours. Do not apply to St. Augustinegrass, Floratam, Dichondra, Lippia, Carpetgrass, or Bentgrass. One 14.29 lb. bag of Scotts Turf Builder WinterGuard Fall Weed & FeedI covers 5,000 sq. ft.

A:  Scotts Turf Builder Winterguard Fall Lawn Fertilizer with Plus 2 Weed Control should not be used on dormant grass. Read the fine print before applying
I bought this to use on my lawn, unfortunately they put what types of grass not to use it on in very small writing on the back after the directions. Hoping I didn’t just kill my entire lawn. The warnings should come first or labeled on front for types of lawns.

Directions on bag and product details on web do no
How is it that in the text description for using a spreader it says to use setting 6 but on the picture of the bag's actual direction it says to use a setting of 7 1/4. So which is it? Does anyone proof read your publications? Not good. Show me where I am mistaken and I will retract. The option to add photos at the bottom of this page is not working.

Using a brand new Scott’s rotary spreader. This product is clumpy and hard pieces. It won’t spread.

We're sorry to read about your disappointment with Scotts Turf Builder Winterguard Fall Weed & Feed and appreciate your feedback.

Any moisture that gets in the product will make the granules lump together. When it dries out, it forms hard clumps. If the product is stored in high heat or humidity or gets rained on, this can happen. Another possible cause is the product being stored on a concrete or cement floor or leaning against a wall made of either material. Concrete/cement draws moisture and can increase the chance of moisture getting in the bag. When purchasing the product in person, be sure to inspect the bags for signs of rips or other damage.

                Satisfied but clumpy
I have been using Scott’s products for 20 years and always have pretty good luck. Something seems to have changed however as I get far more clumping in the bags. I just got done fertilizing a very large lawn and used 3 bags, two of them had significant clumping which I had to break-up with a hand trowel. A little inconvenient and definitely a quality issue. I also have a suggestion. With the weed and feed products, I wish the Scott’s spreaders had solid wheels that don’t have openings on the interior of the spreader. When applying on a damp lawn, they product gathers and clumps in the wheels then falls into the lawn in clumps creating burned areas. While small, it is frustrating and would be solved with a solid wheel.

                  This stuff sucks
I bought a bag of Scotts Weed and Feed today and opened it and was just a big wet gob of mush. It won't spread out of my spreader even on the highest setting. Not to mention, stuff leaked out of the bag all over the upholstery in my car and all over my clothes. Sure hope it comes out. I will never buy Scotts again.

                    My Lawn is DEAD
Looks like I made a big mistake purchasing the Turf builder Weed&feed After purchasing it from Home Depot and despite following the package instructions, my nice lawn now is burned up. It now looks like hay and destroyed my hydro seeded lawn just two years ago. I am so upset. Every day I go outside and see at how bad my lawn looks in comparison to my neighbors. All my hard work over the years have been destroyed in just a matter of days by this stuff Scotts is pushing off on customers.

                      Don’t kill your grass
My fault I didn’t read the fine print on the back. I’ve used Scott’s products for 30 years on my St. Augustine grass with great results and never thought this one would kill it. Again my fault, but you may want to write the warning a little bigger on the front of the bag. So now after a beautiful lawn for 30yrs I have dead grass and the clover and weed are growing like crazy.

                        Very satisfied
After a hot August this really greened up my yard. I used Bayer in the spring but I will switch to Scott's next year.

My Grass is a Thick, Beautiful Dark Green
I've been using the Scotts My Lawn app ever since my home was ravaged by an EF3 tornado. The cleanup and reconstruction really destroyed my lawn. The My Lawn app told me when to put this product down (as well as other Scott's products throughout the year) and the results have been amazing. The weeds are getting choked out and the grass is thickening and darkening. It just works really well.
