Questions & Answers

will these work over previously soldered copper pipe?

Asked by: InEvergreen
You will first need to cut past the soldered area then clean both ends of the copper pipe. Depending on how much room you have and how much you can move the pipe, you might be able to connect them one connector. Otherwise, you'll need to cut out a larger section of copper pipe and use two of these with new pipe (perhaps PEX) in the middle.

Can the water flow in either direction? If not, are both directions (1/2 to 3/4 and 3/4 to 1/2) available for purchase?

Asked by: Steve
Water can flow in either direction. When using copper pipe, I take out the plastic sleeve inside for better flow.

SharkBite 1/2 in. Push-to-Connect Brass Coupling Fitting is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 960.

I attempted to replace my bathtub spout by using a monkey wrench to twist it off. It seemed to be frozen because I couldn't twist it off by hand. Using the monkey wrench I was able to twist the spout but to my surprise I was only twisting the copper pipe within which ended up snapping off. I knew at that point I either needed to call a plumber or find a solution that would allow me to attach a new copper pipe without the need for a blow-torch and soldering expertise. Thank goodness I took the time to search and research because I found the SharkBite system. I purchased a 2ft length of copper pipe and cut it to the appropriate length, 2 two-ended SharkBite connectors and one Sharkbite elbow connector. After accessing the shower pipe system from behind the wall ( I had to cut through the drywall from the garage) I was able to remove the old copper pipe and add my new copper pipe with the SharkBite connectors. All in all the job took about 60 careful minutes. After multiple uses I have no leaks. I now feel comfortable enough to seal up the drywall openings I created because I'm confident I won't have any leaks. I highly recommend SharkBite as an alternative to hiring a plumber.

I was doing a bathroom remodel and went ahead and purchased a new vanity cabinet. Once I got to the point of installing it I was not happy, I found that my water supply lines were out of alignment for the new vanity and that the lines were very close to the studs within the wall. I HATE to solder copper lines within walls, it is hard to torch and always causes more problems... like burning the studs. A co-worker suggested Shark Bite connections. I never used them... I was wary of something so different I was taught... solid copper and solder connections ONLY for quality results. Boy was I wrong! I purchased the necessary connections... followed the directions... and within 20 minutes I had reworked the lines to fit the new vanity. Excellent product. I highly recommend for DIYers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing! Let me start by saying that I literally had never done any plumbing before I purchased these. I was remodeling my master bathroom and needed to change it from a tub shower combo to only a shower. I went into Home Depot and one of the associates showed these to me. I was already familiar with the product since I had seen about a million youtube videos on plumbing. The associate pointed me in the direction of these babies and I picked up a few along with some plex tubes and a few other things. It took me about 20 minutes to cut out the old plumbing and install this. We left it open for over a week to continue checking for leaks. Not a thing! If I can do it, trust me, anyone can do it.

While replacing the water supply into my home, it was necessary to replace several feet of copper pipe. I didn't wish to break the seal on my water meter, I cut the outlet from the meter, cleaned the short piece of copper and connected the new plumbing with SharkBite. Also, on the far end of the system, the new copper required connection very near electrical wiring. Again, used SharkBite. You just need to debur the ends of the copper, in my case, and simply push on the SharkBite. Sure beats risking other parts of your home when it is not necessary. I can sweat solder with not problem, but didn't wish to cause other issues, I used SharkBite in those two areas.

I've used these numerous times with no issues or leaks. I've put them from Copper to PEX fittings for new shower plumbing and they fit and worked perfectly. Make sure to clean and deburr the copper beforehand and it's guaranteed to fit on and not leak. In other cases I've had to replace a leaky shut off valve and used these to rejoin two copper pieces without the need to sweat anything. They come at a higher price point but it still way less than calling a plumber for something you can probably do in a quarter of the time.

I'm not a plumber but wanted to save money installing a water softener...Sharkbite works great!! I was willing to learn and sharkbite.com answered all of my questions. The install (including running new Pex lines to the outside faucets in order to bypass the W.S.) was a success. Now, I'm remodeling the master bathroom with a new shower. I've got it figured out and won't have to pay a plumber.

Placement of plumbing required removal which was difficult. I cut and soldered copper and then started anew with shak-bite fitting which worked GREAT. ( I did get 100% compensation for leaking shark-bite valve which was purchased from my local hardware store -- NOT Home Depot).

Follow the instructions closely to prepare the pipe - a good cut, deburr, & clean are essential. Then mark the pipe with a sharpie to indicae the push depth, and push the connector onto the pipe to the required depth. Simple, easy, quick, no leaks, no sweat.
