Product Overview

The 1/2 in. SharkBite Push-to-Connect Stop Valve with Drain is the easiest way to install a new or replacement valve. The valve is perfect for potable water and hydronic applications where a shut-off is needed. The Stop Valve is designed with an integrated drain vent, allowing for easy cold weather maintenance. Using SharkBite fittings is the easiest way to join copper, CPVC or PEX pipe in any combination with no soldering, clamps, unions or glue. Just insert the pipe and the stainless steel teeth bite down and grip tight, while a specially formulated O-ring compresses to create a perfect seal. Disassembly is just as fast using the simple disconnect tool so fittings and valves can be easily changed and reused. They can even be rotated after assembly for easier installation in tight spaces. SharkBite Fittings are certified for potable water supply and hydronic heating applications.
  • Push-to-connect design makes for quick and easy install, requires no solder, glue, unions, or tools
  • Connects to copper, PEX, CPVC or PE-RT pipe

Beware this is directional
Works great, a much bigger pita to remove if needed than they make it seem. Beware it is directional and there's an arrow on it that's not hard to miss if you aren't expecting one. If installed backwards it won't work and water will not pass through. Yes I'm speaking from personal experience lol Other than that I love sharkbite fittings and have used many. Also don't worry if there's a little space between the fitting and line that it's supposed to be insert to, little as seen on mine. Some will go all the way some won't, just be as close as possible.

Due to location of repair and my faded soldering ability I decided to try this out. This exceeded my expectation and time required was less than 1 minute. Anyone can use this with minimal required knowledge of plumbing. Just pay attention to which side the drain needs to be facing.

Once i swetted off old copper pipe, cleaned the ends of the pipes, it literally tokm me less than a minute to aytach this. I only wish the handle was smaller or a shorter vertical handle. I use Shark bites for ALL my plumbing needs.

Easy to use, no flow issues
I installed four of these for a DIY whole house filter project. These gate valves are less expensive than Sharkbites ball valves, which is why I selected them. They work great, with no issue of pressure drop. Only lesson learned is to be careful during installation, as I broke one valve’s inner plastic piece by having too much side pressure when pushing it onto the pipe.

I really like the convenience of Sharkbite fittings, and although they can be costly as compared to conventional solder-style or compression-style fittings, they are priceless in many circumstances. Unlike a soldered-connection, there is no need to be concerned about traces of water or moisture present in the tubing in order to install this fitting, just clean the pipe and insert the fitting. Provided the pipe is clean, I’ve experienced no leaking after installation. Installation is a snap. This product has a solid "feel" and a metal handle. This is the first time, I’ve used their stop valve product and because I made a mistake measuring the pipe during installation, I needed to remove the valve and re-install it. There are special removal tools used to grasp the outer collar of the fitting and push it inward to release the coupling from the copper tubing. I have two types of these tools (a small plastic collar and a spring-style hand tool designed specifically for this). I tried to uninstall the fitting but succeeded only in removing one side; removal of the other side was impossible. So what is one to do? You can’t apply heat as you would in a soldered connection to melt the solder. Cut the tubing and start again? – an expensive remedy. Perhaps I received a defective product? Unfortunately, as much as I like the Sharkbite brand, based on my experience I cannot recommend this item.

I have stated before, I like Sharkbite fittings. I still like Sharkbite fittings. They are the easiest to use fittings I have ever had the need to use. I like the fact that you can install them in a wet pipe. You can install them with no heat, as in sweat fittings, so no fire hazzard is created. They do not come off easy but then do you want a fitting that comes off easy in your crawl space or attic? I would answer " no ". I wish the manufacturer would offer a belt buckle based on the design of the valve handle, see pictures, I would wear it. I have used these on rigid copper and cpvc pipe and they are good to go.
