A:Â Hi, The SharkBite 1/2 in. Push-to-Connect x 3/4 in. MHT Brass Washing Machine Outlet Box with Water Hammer Arrestors does not require a special hose to make a proper connection. A:Â You can remove the fittings. I didn't do it, but the instructions clearly go over that part. "3. For a center drain application with bottom supplied water lines, the valves must be moved to either side of the center drain. Refer to A-1 instructions below" from the Installation Guide. SharkBite will have to address the replacement but their catalog is readily available in pdf. It's a good resource.

A:Â Yes. Our SharkBite push to connect fittings just require you to make sure the existing pipe has a clean, straight cut on it then just push the fittings onto the pipe. You can watch several different short training videos if you visit www.sharkbite.com. No, you cannot solder the copper onto the push fitting. You will damage the release collar. If you have further questions, please contact Customer Service M-F, 8am-5pm at (877) 700-4242.

Great product super simple installation!! I installed an access hatch below this washing machine box and installed (2) 1/2" SharkBite shutoff ball valves for any future repairs and just to be able to isolate the area from shutting off the entire house.

Quick connection
When remodeling my laundry room, I used this SharkBite 1/2 in. washing machine outlet box with the hammer arrestors. The outlet box was easy to install in the new wall I was building. Simply followed the enclosed directions. It was great that it had the knock outs for the washer drain hose. One on each side, you can use whichever suits your needs. I like the fact that it included the hammer arrestors, no more water pipe knocking when washer solenoids open and close. The water pipe connections were easy, just trim pipe to proper length, and push iinto the SharkBite connectors. It also includes the shut off valves on each line. I especially like the easy snap on finish cover, no need for screws that eventually rust.
Since switching to a high efficiency washer I've noticed the water input seems very 'aggressive'. The water goes on and off more frequently and in quicker bursts not to mention those actions seem to contribute to more noise than our old washer. Needing to reconfigure our laundry to accommodate the stackable configuration I figured this was worth a pick up just in case some of that noise was due to water hammer. Installation was fairly straight forward, Sharkbite connectors are just awesome, this should have been the standard for the last 15 years. Our space was already outfitted with pex pipe so configuration was quick just had to be extra careful everything was measured correctly before final install. The instructions say a hammer and screwdriver can be used to remove the knockouts, but those tabs are solidly in there and I can't say I'd go that route; I ended up using a 3/4 hole saw and a utility knife. I also ended up cutting off the top drain as I wanted extra clearance as I was running the dryer vent close by. I've run a few loads through the wash and while I can't say I've noticed a difference in noise I can at least exclude water hammer. Also the addition of the Sharkbite connectors is worth it alone to make things easy.
First impressions:
Thin plastic material. Large breakouts look difficult. Handles are small and cramped. Attractive appearance. Comes with a bezel to "dress it up".
Analysis:
Installation:
This went very easy until I had to remove the "breakout" for the drain hose. I have an older machine and drain hose, which is larger than the new ones. The new ones are only about an inch in diameter and do fit the small breakout in the drain fitting positions. But the old ones are more like 2 inches in diameter and the breakout for that is almost non-existent. It appeared too difficult to remove the larger breakout without shattering the case. So, I punched out the the small breakout easily and then proceeded to cut radii to the outer breakout with a hack saw blade. That went fast, and I as able to break out pieces of the plastic roughly even with the larger diameter in the plastic. You can see the pieces in one photo. The rest of the installation was easy and took very little time.
Usage:
I find the position of the valve handles to be too cramped once the hoses are attached. But that is partly my fault for not selecting a box without the hammer arrestors on top of the valves. I had no hammer problems with this installation in a separate shed with just the two CPVC lines to the shed. So I did not really need this version.
Once I slid on the trim bezel/faceplate, I realized I had mounted the box too low, against a cross piece, to allow the bezel to fit evenly onto the box. I just left it that way, sine there will be no paneling installed around the box.
I did have to remove the CPVC pipe from one valve's Sharkbite fitting, but I had not purchased the removal tool, so I used the trick with an adjustable wrench and that worked fine.
No leaks, and the drain works well. The plastic seems wimpy (thin), especially the mounting ears, and may not hold up well in the future.
Summary:
Easy to install for a newer small style drain hose, not so much for a larger older one. Valve handles are a little cramped. Thin plastic, but did not break during installation. Nice appearance.
I am working on a project that I have not finished yet. It is for a higher end home, so I wanted to go w/ higher quality products, including the mechanics. That's why I purchased this laundry box w/ the attached arrestors. Gives homeowners piece-of-mind that they can quickly shut-off, when something malfunctions, or when they want to go on vacation, without having to worry about burst pipes in that area. My plumber installed the product, so I can't say for sure, but there were no complaints from him about any problems, so I believe it was an easy install. Time will tell, how the product holds up for the future homeowner, but I am keeping all paperwork for them, should they have any problems.
BEHOLD THE WONDER THAT IS SHARKBITE! I have been so impressed by these and other Sharkbite fittings that I feel like I am cheating when doing plumbing installations! Wow! Cut. Push. Done. It's as simple as that! This Washing machine install kit comes with everything you need, including the Sharkbite removal tool and water hammer arrestors! Quality no-leak valves make this complete kit a must have for any washing machine installation! The inset box give the finished product a very professional look and the hammer arrestors keeps everything quiet!! The valves on newer washing machines have the ability to close so quickly that it can lead to damage and banging noises over time. The water hammer arrests in this kit help to alleviate this problem and keep your pipes from banging! No soldering or compression joint that could leak! Shark its is also approved for behind wall use, so it shows the quality and no leak confidence! Bye bye copper, hello Sharkbite!!
We have a washing machine hooked up to two hose bibs and I have wanted to install one of these washing machine outlet boxes.
I chose this one, because of the SharkBite connectors. I am very familiar with the connectors and I've had very good luck with them. They're also super easy to install, which is a huge plus for me.
This box has a main body, a bezel, installation hardware and a drain hose outlet. The water valves are 1/4 turn and they're color coordinated for hot and cold. There are hammer arrestors to keep the pipes from getting noisy.
Installation was super easy. I did have to move the old pipes a bit and to lengthen one, so I did do some soldering. I am not a fan of soldering in a wall cavity, but I had to for this install. The house is still here and our house hasn't flooded, so it was a success.
Once the pipes and drain are in the correct place, installation was easy.. The mounting hardware is very easy to use (the parts slide in next to the box and are covered by the bezel). When done, the bezel snaps on to the box and voila! You're done.
When using SharkBite fitting, you must push them in fully or you risk having a leak. I recommend marking the pipe with a marker 1" from the end of the pipe. This is how far you want to push the connector in.
If you do any plumbing at all...from DIY to professional and you haven't tried SharkBite products, do yourself a favor and at least try them. I have been using them for years and they pass the test of time. They make plumbing tasks easy and they don't leak (if installed properly).
Follow the instructions that are incredibly easy. Cut your copper, PEX or PVC pipe square, clean off any burrs, and make a mark 1" from the end of the pipe to ensure you have pushed it in far enough. Then simply push to connect. It's that easy. If you make a mistake on placement or orientation you can use the simple tool to remove or re-position the valve. You can even reuse the valve on another project. This kit for washer/dryer hook-up makes the entire job quick and easy.
I have installed numerous connections with this excellent product and will continue to because it is so easy and so practical. I have talked to other plumbers who also swear by the SharkBite brand.
