I'm stuck

Would a heat gun be hot enough to take the elbow off?
Asked by: Redd
Take a hack saw blade and place it as close to the elbow and saw it off. It looks like a very tight space. I hope that helps.

Can this be used to connect a non threaded coppet pipe to a tub spout (like IPS Moen)?

Asked by: Ken
Yes, if the spout has the same size threads and it does not have additional plastic components inside as that will hinder the adapter from fitting into the spout. If the threads in the spout are plastic, be careful not to cross thread as brass can easily cut plastic threads.

If I'm attaching this to a 3/4 copper pipe that previously had a sweated fitting on it, how to I prep the pipe? (I don't want to cut it)
Asked by: GaryTheSnail
From what you tell me if you just sandpaper the end down it should work. Just so long as there is not a big gob of solder still present. The end should be as flat as possible.

If it's cold water, a piece of pex, between, should work.

SharkBite 3/4 in. Push-to-Connect x MIP Brass Adapter Fitting is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 338.

I’ve used these fittings on ¾” PEX and ¾” copper and they are fast, easy, and tight. In this case, I have 1” PE well line connecting through a brass barb fitting to a 1” FPT check valve upstream of the well tank. At 25 years old, the PE pipe would not come off the brass barb fitting… thus I had to cut the PE pipe and replace the end. I wrongly bought a 2ft section of PE pipe at HD with a plastic barb fitting, and then “fit” the PE pipe into this sharkbite. It was a tiny bit too big. It was hard to start, even using the sharkbite tool to prepare the end, and I had to tap it in with a rubber mallet. It was leak-tight but I’m not sure it will ever come apart. My bad. HD sells 5 or 10 ft lengths of Sharkbite PERT (high temp PE) pipe. In this situation, I should have mated a length of PERT to the plastic barb fitting on the old well line, then slipped the PERT into the Sharkbite. This would have mated and disconnected easily. Unfortunately the HD employee I asked about this had no real idea, and just said it might not fit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 20 Second Installation While replacing a washer in a leaky outdoor spigot, I cracked the faucet handle. In trying to remove the spigot, I broke the connection between the spigot and the copper water line. Googled how to repair this and stumbled on SharkBite couplings. Was able to purchase the SharkBite connection I need locally. Had to remove stucco around pipe to access it as it was flush to the exterior wall. Was able to use hacksaw to square off end of pipe and a Dremel bit to sand the edges smooth. Wrapped spigot connection threads with teflon type tape, inserted coupler over copper pipe, attached spigot to coupler, closed spigot to check for leaks. Not a single drop of water. No leaks when turned faucet on with hose attached to it. While I am not looking forward to future plumbing repairs using SharkBite connectors will speed things up considerably.

I wasn't looking forward to sweating a copper coupling inside the wall of the house. This fitting was made for this type of repair. Once the pipe was cut and smoothed this pushed right on. NOTE...push firmly to seat this all the way. It will seem to have gone on the pipe but there is still a bit more to push in. Mark pipe at the point where the fitting is completely on so that you don't get it wrong.

The old filter was about 30 years old & needed to be replaced. Compression fittings would not stop leaking so I used the SharkBites and what an amazing difference! After applying sufficient Teflon tape to the Bites, they screwed in nice & snug. Then it was securely inserting the pipes on either side. Done! No leaks!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from New packaging offensive and irresponsible The new plastic container is probably to help address theft issues or somehhing but its the last time I will be buying Sharkbite anything or push to connect at HD. Irrespobsible of Home Depot to allow this and can get comparable products at other places for the same price without all the waste- would really have liked a 10 or 20 pack anyway.

I had a PEX line break in a area impossible to get to without de constructing a cabinet, or so I thought. A friend told me about SharkBite and it took less than twenty minutes to repair the system and return water to the house. Easily installed and leak free for the past month with no real reason to expect a leak in the future.
