About This Product

SharkBite Max push-to-connect fittings are the fastest way to connect PEX, copper, CPVC, or PE-RT pipe. A newly designed stainless steel collet retainer delivers additional strength and durability and provides a 400 PSI pressure rating. SharkBite Max fittings don't require a PEX tube liner and a re-engineered body allows you to insert the pipe using less force and greater ease. No soldering, clamps, unions, glue, or special tools required. After inserting the pipe, stainless steel teeth bite down and grip the pipe tightly while a specially formulated O-ring compresses around the pipe to create a watertight seal. The fitting can be rotated after installation for quick adjustments, and removing the fitting is just as fast with a disconnect tool, allowing fittings and valves to be changed or reused.

Highlights

  • Can be installed if water is running, and be pressure tested immediately
  • Ideal in tight spaces, can be rotated after installation
  • PEX tube liner not required for PEX installs
  • Stainless steel collar strengthens and reinforces the brass body
  • Rated to 200°F and 400 PSI
  • Patent protected technology
  • Approved for underground and behind-the-wall applications (when burying underground, fitting is required to be wrapped)
  • Code approved; IAPMO & CSA listed, for details, see specification
  • 25-year warranty when used with PEX, copper, CPVC and PE-RT pipe, see warranty

If I use a plastic shark bite on copper pipe instead of a copper one will it make a difference

      Answer This Question

As long as the plastic fitting is designed for use on the copper pipe, the only difference may be in psi or temperature ratings.

Can these be used on polybutylene tubing
          ByDec 8, 2025

          Answer This Question

Hi Edward, Thank you for reaching out! The SharkBite Max 1/2 in. Push-to-Connect Brass End Stops are not compatible for polybutylene pipe material. SharkBite fittings are certified for use with copper, PEX, PVC, PE-RT, & HDPE piping. It is important to use the correct fitting for the proper pipe material to avoid failure. Unfortunately, we only offer transitional polybutylene fittings; not a full product line. Below, we have provided a link for our current poly b fittings. We do not offer a Polybutylene push end cap. https://www.sharkbite.com/us/en/search?s=Polybutylene If you have any additional questions or require further assistance about the product, please reach out to our Technical Support Team at 1- 877-700-4242 so we can assist. Warmest Regards,

Can you use the sharkbites on a threaded copper pipe to extend to a non threaded copper pipe to make it longer? And can the end cap be used on a threaded copper pipe to shut it off?

            Answer This Question

Hi, The SharkBite threaded adapters can be connected/screwed on to a threaded copper pipe to make the pipe longer. You can then connect to the Max 1/2 in. Push-to-Connect Brass End Stop on to the non threaded end of the copper pipe. If you have any more questions you can call tech support at 877-700-4242. Kind regards,

Needed a quick fix to cap off a pipe that needed to have modifications made. This worked perfectly.
                  by
I had a copper pipe that had a leak to an outdoor front faucet. I decided to just cap it for now and fix it myself after watching instructional You-Tube videos. I never use that faucet so that’s why I capped it but if later down the road I decide to add in a new piece of pipe I can. After cutting the pipe (with another tool which was easy) I de burred the pipe (using a shark bite one). I pushed it on and then it was done! It’s been on for a week with no leaking. I was so scared to do this myself but it ended up being so simple and easy!

                  Sharkbite End Stop
These things work pretty dang good. I dont know if I would use them for long term, but as a temporary stop until the plumber gets there they work great. I used them today to cap the old water lines so we could get the kitchen island installed.

I had to shut down the water line in order to remove the dishwasher. The end cap worked well and it was easy to put it on without soldering.

                    Sold on SharkBite
I have used SharkBite products on 4 or 5 different plumbing issues and all have held well. I've installed end stops underneath my house and simple cut-offs for an outside faucet (all normal 1/2 copper water pipe). No problems at all. Will continue to use them wherever I can. I'm sold on the product. As most vids and instructions tell you, cut your pipe square, keep it clean, push on the fitting while keeping it straight (not at an angle); done.

Very easy to use and highly effective. No leaks whatsoever. Simply measure, smooth cut on the pipe, and cap. That's it!

After much reading and videos of seeing and not believing how easy this would be to install, I installed 3 quicker than it took to cut the 1/2 inch copper pipe. I just cleaned the pipe with Emory cloth prior to cutting off old angle stops first then deburr the edges a little and pushed the fittings on. I used 3 caps as of now and they are a life saver knowing they are easily removable and reusable. This is helping me a lot as I demo my bathroom and knowing 2 fittings will be re routed anyways. I just needed to stop the water flow.

When we added an extension washroom, the guys left the old washer hookup with valve connected. Of course eventually, the valve would fail which it did. Fortunately I caught it early. My first thought was to cut out the valve stub-outs, and use the Sharkbite end stop to cap off the copper pipe. But then I discovered how "easy" it is just replace the valve. Since space limitations would make it somewhat difficult to cut out the old valve stub-outs, I decided to try a new valve. Got the replacement valve and it didn't fit. The on-center was correct, but I couldn't even get the valve on the stub-outs. I had 2 of the Sharbite end stops so the decision was made. I cut out the valve stub-outs with a multi-tool, yes not recommended. There was no way to get a pipe cutter in there without cutting the box and I didn't want to do that. After cutting I then filed and sand papered to make sure the end of the copper pipe was smooth. Even getting the end stop on wasn't easy due to the limited space and other constraints. Once I got it on, turned on the water...No leaks! Awesome! Checked it a couple of days later and all is good. This is a definite recommend!
