How do you install

Answer This Question

Hello, Mary, Thank you for your recent inquiry with The Home Depot. The detailed installation instructions found in the Installation Guide available on the product page provides step-by-step instructions (listed below) and diagrams. 1. Measure the width of the window opening from jamb to jamb. 2. Measure the depth of the window opening in three places (each end and the center). Note the largest of these dimensions. 3. Mark the width on the top of the sill. 4. Cut the sill to the width of the opening. 5. Mark the depth (the largest dimension from step 2) on the back of the sill, starting from the lip of the sill. 6. Using a saw, rip the sill to the proper depth. Sand any rough edges. 7. Insert the sill in the window opening to make sure it fits. 8. Apply 1-inch balls of polyurethane construction adhesive 3 to 6 inches from each end and 12 inches on center of the sill area. 9. Apply a bead of caulk to the back edge of the sill. 10. Insert the sill at a slight angle making contact with the window, then pivot the sill down in place. 11. Apply a bead of caulk in the joints between the sill and the window, and the sill and the drywall. Smooth the caulk with a wet finger. Occasionally, the butt-cut ends will have voids. These voids can be filled with an allpurpose adhesive caulk. We appreciate your business and look forward to serving you in the future.

Product ID cites 4 inch width but ordering detail cites 5 inches? Which is it? The Speicification cites the product is for interior use but the picture and advert indicates outdoor use. Which is it?

    Answer This Question

The sill fits up to a 4 inch depth window opening. The front profile adds 1 inch to the depth of the sill making it 5 inches deep overall. The sill is for interior use as the photo indicates.

        Is it paintable?
        ByOct 2, 2023

        Answer This Question

Sill-Rite sills are pre-finished and do not require painting but can be painted. For best results, prepare the surface by lightly sanding with fine sandpaper. Clean the sill thoroughly and apply an acrylic latex primer. Finish with 100% acrylic latex paint.

What materials would you recommend to level the surface prior to glueing on the sill? I am installing them on the interior side of basement windows, and they are resting on wood studs and the edge of the drywall.

            1 Answer |
            Answer This Question

Any material that will provide a clean, even surface will do. For instance, drywall will work well.

I used this while replacing a window in my home. It cuts easy (I used a circular saw). Good product, no scuffs or scratches.

Light weight, cutting it to size was easy In the past you could order it to size,I didn't like that I had to use & cut 2 6' pieces & join them together instead of one clean piece!?

This product realy fit our needs to repair/protect our window sills that have been and are being scratched by our German Shepard. I really didn't think products like this even existed until I did an internet search. I'm so glad I found this product. It just takes a little work to trim product to fit your window size.

A decent product other than it has large, noticeable voids throughout the thick (end) portion of the sill. Sure, you can easily fill them with caulking or putty. but those items will yellow a bit over time. I was cutting 36 inches down to 24 inches, and I kept making incremental cuts trying to find section with no voids. No luck.

I ordered 3 and received 1. I had to reorder 2 more. It took about 10 days for each order. The ends of the sill are not a smooth complete finish as the photo shows. They have a hole through the center of the bullnose and are rough. I did fill the holes And then they look okay
