Product Details

The Strong-Drive SD Connector screw is specifically designed to replace nails in certain Simpson Strong-Tie connectors and is the only screw approved for that application. The load-rated SD screw has been tested and approved for use in many popular Simpson Strong-Tie products. In certain applications screws are easier and more convenient to install than nails, and the single-fastener load values achieved by the SD screw exceed those of typical 10d common or 16d common nails. In addition, the galvanized coating makes the SD screw ideal for interior and most exterior conditions.
  • Tested and approved for use in many of Simpson Strong-Tie's best-selling connectors for both interior and most exterior applications
  • Ideal for use in connector applications where more control is desired or using a hammer is inconvenient
  • 1/4-in hex head with 0.37-in diameter integrated washer reduces cam-out and is stamped with the Simpson Strong-Tie "≠" sign and the fastener size for easy identification after installation
  • Shank is specifically designed to match the fastener holes in Simpson Strong-Tie connectors
  • Optimized heat treating for ductility and strength
  • Size: #10 x 1-1/2 in.
  • Hex driver included
  • Mechanically galvanized, Class 55 coating meets the requirements for use in preservative-treated and fire-retardant-treated wood per the 2012 and 215 IRC
  • Quantity: 100
  • Common project applications: remodeling, fencing, storage, cabinets, framing

Q:Pilot needed for plywood? I'm going through 3/4" plywood and into joists...just asking as, to me, it seems like plywood might be more prone to splitting.

Q:Will be using #10 x 2-1/2" SD screws to install HUC hangers for double 2x10's to 6"x 6" pressure treated deck posts. Is a pilot required (or suggested) prior to installing the screws, or can I simply install the screws with no pilot hole?

A:  You do not need a pilot hole.

        by|Aug 29, 2022

A:  These screws are very user friendly. No pilot holes needed and they drive in easy with an impact drill. Or, you can use a regular drill. Another plus- if you need to back them out, it is very easy to do.

          by|Aug 30, 2022

A:  Hi Mike, this is Colin from Simpson Strong-Tie. The installation of SD fasteners in our connectors do not require pre-drilling. The sharp point of screw enables fast starts. If you need more information or have additional questions, please contact the Simpson Strong-Tie Customer Service team at 800-999-5099. Thank you.

We used these affordable and well-made screws to secure the 6" x 6" corner posts of our new cedar pergola to mounting brackets made by the same company. They were recommended by Simpson for that application and were easy to screw in with an electric driver. I expect they will last a good long time.

                Not very strong
I used these for joist hangers for a deck and unfortunately many of them sheared off. I wasn't over tightening them. They all sheared off at the same place, right at the start of the thread. Luckily the joist hangers had more holes than I needed to put screws in, so I could just put one in another hole. I didn't count how many sheared off but I'm guessing about 5-10% and that was even after I was being extra careful. Besides that I liked them. The driver worked fine.

Works as advertised. The screw catches the wood quickly and anchors well.

Excellent! Use a 1/4" impact driver and drive away! I framed out all the joists and set my 6x6 posts with these on a new 16x14 foot composite deck. Used Simpson strong tie joist hangers for 2x10 joists and Simpson strong tie 6x6 base plates to mount the posts to the concrete piers. It doesn't get any easier. The framing was way over engineered, but with the Wolf composite having a 50 year warranty, the few extra bucks gave me piece of mind. Just need to finish my steps and it will outlast anything in the county. Highly recommended.

I used these when building a cover over my back porch. I used Simpson metal supports to build the structure and these were the fasteners designed for those supports. Hex head bit is included in the package. Make the job quick and easy.

Great screws, work perfect with joist hangers. The hex heads assure easy install and tight grip and torque. Easy to install and easy to back-out if needed for readjustment. I have used 4 boxes of them in my project.
