Q:I building a deck and homedepot sent me this RFB#5X12HDGP2 retrofit bolt , Is it the right rods for anchoring my posts , I thought you have to use the J rods or they need to fill with some kind of epoxy in the concrete piers

Answer This Question
A:Â Hello Mikel, this is McKenzie with Simpson Strong-Tie. The RFB is a retrofit product used in a post-installed fashion with an approved adhesive. If the concrete has not been poured and depending on your application (ie. loads required for your specific post base), a wet-set anchor bolt could be used, like a 'J' bolt or similar product (SB, SSTB, etc.).

A: Hello Pete, this is Ricardo with Simpson Strong-Tie. The RFB 5/8" is definitely an option to anchor the APB44. Keep in mind that the length and coating will be up the designer of record. A: Hi Dean, this is Colin from Simpson Strong-Tie. It will depend greatly on the depth. We have a web tool on our website (www.strongtie.com), called Adhesive Cartridge Estimator. Type in "ACE" in the search box to be directed to this tool and that will assist you in determining the amount of adhesive you'll need for your project. If you need more information or have additional questions, please contact the Simpson Strong-Tie Customer Service team at 800-999-5099. Thank you.

Answer This Question
A: Hi Ray, this is Colin from Simpson Strong-Tie. The required drill bit diameter will be dependent on which anchoring adhesive is used. Our SET-3G epoxy drill bit diameter for 5/8" threaded rod requires an 11/16". It is also the same diameter for our AT-XP acrylic adhesive. The SET-XP and ET-HP epoxy drill bit diameter for 5/8" threaded rod is 3/4". Additionally, the 4 adhesives all have acceptable hole ranges for 5/8" rod with no load reductions. The SET-3G range is 11/16" -7/8", the AT-XP range is 11/16"-3/4", and the SET-XP & ET-HP range is 3/4"-15/16". Drilled holes outside of the accepted range are not recommended. Please refer to the product pages in our current "Anchoring, Fastening, Restoration & Strengthening Systems for Concrete and Masonry catalog which can be found on our website at www.strongtie.com.
If you need further assistance or have additional questions, please contact our Customer Service team at 800-999-5099. Thank you-Colin
