A:  Hello Donald, my name is Colin with Simpson Strong-Tie. My apologies for this delayed response to your question about our 5/8" diameter x 12" Retro Fit Bolt. Consider consulting with a design professional or your local code official to determine if this provides a solution for your application. If you need more information or have additional questions, please contact the Simpson Strong-Tie Customer Service team at 800-999-5099. We look forward to hearing from you.

Q:I building a deck and homedepot sent me this RFB#5X12HDGP2 retrofit bolt , Is it the right rods for anchoring my posts , I thought you have to use the J rods or they need to fill with some kind of epoxy in the concrete piers

        Answer This Question

A:  Hello Mikel, this is McKenzie with Simpson Strong-Tie. The RFB is a retrofit product used in a post-installed fashion with an approved adhesive. If the concrete has not been poured and depending on your application (ie. loads required for your specific post base), a wet-set anchor bolt could be used, like a 'J' bolt or similar product (SB, SSTB, etc.).
