From complex infrastructure projects to do-it-yourself ventures, Simpson Strong-Tie offers a wide variety of anchoring products to meet virtually any need. Our mechanical anchors are designed to install easily and securely into a variety of base materials, including concrete and brick to hollow and grouted CMU. They offer optimal performance even in the most demanding structural applications. The Strong‑Bolt 2 is a wedge-type expansion anchor designed for optimal performance in cracked and uncracked concrete as well as uncracked masonry.
  • Tri-segmented clip: Each segment adjusts independently, increasing follow-up expansion should the hole increase in size as a result of a crack
  • Dual embossments on each clip segment: Enables clip to undercut into the concrete thereby increasing follow-up expansion should a crack occur
  • Standard (ANSI) fractional anchor: Fits most fixtures and installs with common drill bit sizes and tools
  • Suitable for horizontal, vertical and overhead applications
  • Made from zinc-plated carbon steel

planing on putting a deck pourch on the front of my house what are the best anchors to use to go through 4inches of wood into

Asked by Robert November 16, 2020

Answer

The answer to this depends on the design. The best project would have all the force go down through 4x4 or 6x6 wooden "feet." That way, the anchors are only used to maintain position and won't have much pressure on them. Stop by the Pro Desk at your local Home Depot and show them your plans. They can offer suggestions and products to make this happen.

What size would better best suited for nchoring a 4x4 to concrete?

Asked by Tank July 26, 2020

Answer

This design question has far too many variables to answer easily. Quality of the wood ... quality fo the concrete ... depth of the concrete ... number of wood beams ... what's attached to the beams? This required experience and some engineering. Ramshot might also be an answer? Talk the the folks at the Pro Desk and maybe find a local contractor to help you here.

Is this exterior grade for an outside deck pylon?

Answers

The Zinc plate should help these anchors weather many a storm. You should be good to go on an outside application.

what drill bit size do i need

Asked by Burt June 23, 2019

Answer

Since drilling into concrete isn't an exact science, you can use a standard 5/8" concrete bit for these. There will be enough "play" to tap the anchor into place before you tighten it up.

Worked as intended and lock in real quick when setting posts for a generator cage. Only gripe is the cost to buy individually versus a box of 10. I needed 12. Two individual costs 50% of ten. That is some serious mark up.
