Questions & Answers

Can I use two switches independent

Asked by: Tbrook
The QOT and HOMT tandem breakers only use once space in QO and Homeline load centers that accept tandem breakers. Two independent, single pole circuits are provided. Regards, Customer Care

I'd like to distribute power into two units. Does this product have enough space for (2) two 60A 120/240V 2-pole breakers? If not, what is the recommended product for this application? Also, which breaker can be installed in this product? Thanks
Asked by: SSSS
No, because I don't think they make a double 2 pole 60 amp breaker. Also the panel is rated at 70 amps total, so it probably would not have enough capacity, even if you could find that type of breaker. Look for a panel with 4 or more full sized spaces.

How can you classify this as a 100amp breaker if you can only feed it with 8 Gauge wire that is not rated for that amperage??????????
Asked by: nickname
What I am being presented with here is a 100 amp load center (panel) not a breaker. This load center does not have a main disconnect breaker, so you need to have a breaker, rated for up to a maximum of 100 amps, from another distribution panel or meter panel feeding this panel to serve as the main disconnect for this load center. The "power in" connections for this load center are going to made via the main lugs. You should have two lugs, located one on each side of the buss bar, one for each of the two current carrying conductors (hot wires). There should be another lug located at the top, connected to the neutral bar, for your neutral wire. This panel does not come with a ground bar or ground lug, so you will need to get these separately if this load center will be used as a secondary or "sub-panel". The lugs that come installed in the load center are rated for wire guages ranging from #8 to #1. Any copper conductor sized at #1 is rated for at least 110 amps. Aluminum conductors are a bit different, and if you are running aluminum NM cable (i.e. "Romex" or SER cable), and you need to feed your load center with 100 amps, you will have to go up to the next bigger wire guage size which is 1/0. This will be too big for the load center lugs. If you are running your wires through conduit, you can use a wire guage that will fit the lugs. There are several options for accomplishing the task of feeding this load center. An experienced professional electrician would be able to help you with this project. To ensure that this project is done properly, to code, and most importantly - SAFELY, I would highly recommend hiring a licensed, insured, experienced professional electrician who will pull permits and get inspections. You don't want to risk your safety, the lives of others, or the integrity of the building. Remember too, if something were to be done incorrectly causing an electrical fire, and that work was not done by a licensed electrician and/or not inspected by the local building department, your insurance company will most likely deny any claim against that policy. Please consult a professional.

does it come with a ground bar

Asked by: grumpyme2
No. It has a neutral bus bar but you need to buy a separate ground bus kit in order to float the neutral for a separate structure. PK7GTA is the ground bus kit.

Initially I was going to backfeed a dual pole breaker as a main breaker for the panel but didn't want to use up 2 slots doing so. If you load this panel up with tandem breakers it gets a bit crowded, but it's a small panel so that's to be expected. It's made of nice heavy gauge metal and getting the knockouts out when mounted can be a bit of a chore because of that. Make sure you get a grounding kit, as it does not have any provisions for grounding in the box. Also remember if using as a subpanel you do not connect grounds to the neutral bar, nor put in the bonding screw it comes with. If you are feeding any 240v loads from this, make sure you look into the quad breakers that give you a dual pole 240v center breaker and 2 120v breakers on the sides. Home Depot has them, but you have to order them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to install Hi! Had 4x4 junction box installed between two studs. I guess was OK installation before, but then few lines added, several appliances added, then another lights added, second line to the main box, etc. Ended up with the whole floor + 2 large appliances + shop light all wire nuts (see before). Got the the sub-panel. Used pipe cutter to cut metal conduit and fit the panel. Easy to install. Had to get some wires to extend the upper part. When you remove 4x4 and replace with the larger panel, you need fish longer wires. Ended up with all 6 positions used to avoid double tapping. Mounted on a side to the stud. Recommended. See after pictures.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good panel. But does not come with ground bar. Build quality is excellent and price is very good. Only problem I found is that it does not come with ground bar. I did not realize that until I was on the job site. Where I installed this panel was a bit far from Home Depot. Local electric supply store was closer, so went there. They only had Eaton ground bar and found included bolt size and spacing is different. I had to drill a hole and use smaller bolt (8-32 fits thread perfectly on existing hole.) Probably not a code compliant, but made sure it is secure. Make sure to purchase PK7GTACP when you are purchasing this panel to be used as sub-panel.
