Product Details

Adding a Bullnose Starting Tread assembly to your staircase accentuates its depth, detail and beauty. The round bullnose is standard with a 7-3/4 in. riser height and can be trimmed to your desired height. The reversible tread is 1-1/32 in. thick and can be applied to a left-hand or right-hand staircase configuration. Intended for new construction or staircase remodeling projects, it may require the use of left-hand or right-hand volute Hand Rail fittings as well as pin-top volute or starting newels. Using a box newel is also an option and may require the use of Hand Rail fittings to achieve the specified Hand Rail height required by building code. From stair treads, stair railing and a complete selection of Stair Parts, Surewood-LNL has what you need to make your stairs beautiful.

    Q:Do you sell just the shoe moulding? My semi-circular riser (10 3/8" diameter) is already in place but the floor refinishers tore up my shoe moulding so I just need to replace that, both left and right.

      A:  Hi handyman, by trim piece, do you mean the shoe mould? If so, that piece is included in the kit. There's a radius piece that fits around the bullnose, and a straight piece that can be trimmed to fit the bottom of the riser. We will update our product description to highlight that benefit.         A:  Hi Paddington, thanks for the question. The tread you describe is a Double-Open Starting Step. The single most important measurement we need to quote this item for you is the "throat dimension," or the width of the opening of the bottom step. It's usually not the same width of the other stair treads, as this bottom tread has to slide into the front of the staircase at the bottom. Once you have that information, the Customer Service desk in any Home Depot store can take those measurements so we can provide a quote. We usually turn around a quote within 2 business days.           Hi Rebuilt, sorry to hear that you were not satisfied with this product. Currently, we have not found a way to bend solid wood at the radius required for a starting tread while keeping the price in a range suitable for most customers. The tread itself is a solid hardwood tread, shaped to match the radius of the riser. However, the riser is made of plywood for several reasons, including strength and stability. The curved end must be plywood, with kerf cuts on the inside, so that it will bend smoothly at a tight radius. We stand behind our workmanship, so if you're not satisfied, and the tread and riser have not been used, cut, or stained, you may return it using the shipping labels enclosed with your shipment.
