A: Yes go on top of the existing wood stairs

A: Yes, the existing nose will have to be cut off for a proper fit.

A: Yes, this is created to go overtop of your existing tread. If you are keeping your existing riser, you will have to trip the nosing off. If you are replacing the riser, you can keep the existing nose of the stair.

A: In my case they worked over the existing stair tread that was under the carpet. I had a 1/4” gap at the back of the new tread, easily covered by a new riser I needed anyway. Happy with the product.

Perfect for our stair upgrade.
Worked well and quality seems good. Make sure to get the stair tool to measure as each step is likely not going to be perfectly square. We cut with a table saw then fine tuned for slight angles with a belt sander. We installed using PL Premium Max and a brad nailer in four corner plus a few along the nosing just to be safe. Stain, and seal prior to install to make your life easier.

Ready to finish and install
This was a good option to retread our steps. I liked the smooth surface and how it turned out after I stained and polyurethaned. The solid oak piece is what I needed

Turned out great! Measure carefully though! They fit right over my existing 1980s builder grade pine treads. Now my stairs meet current Florida Building Code, and I cant be more pleased. I picked them up at a HD store, which is always an easy experience. One of them had a knick on the nose, but after cutting to size, using wood filler and staining, I can't tell which one it was. Be patient with the time it takes to measure, stain and Poly the treads, and use adhesive made for wood flooring instead of just construction adhesive.

Very nice product, used these instead of laminate for the stair tread. I stained and used polyurethane first, then cut and installed with glue and nails. Used the laminate for the skirts and risers. will do the next stair well with the same product.

I went into this project with enthusiasm then anxiety. I read reviews and saw videos of other women doing it and was encouraged. As I started, I felt like I was in over my head. I learned to take my time and literally take it step by step. It took me 9 days to stain 12 steps, 6 piece landing and nose - I sanded with 220 grit, pre-condition and 1 coat of stain then a bit more stain then 3 coats of poly - one coat a day. I attempted to cut current noses with reciprocating saw - too much power for my 5’3 frame. Compact circular saw and oscillating tool were more female friendly. I liked the look of white bead board for risers with a particle board behind it for total of 3/4 in. thickness. I rented miter saw to cut sides of treads and landing pieces (I used 3/4 in. risers of same red oak as treads for landing). NOTE: I got splitting on first 2 treads that I cut stain side up so HIGHLY RECOMMEND you cut stain side down. I cut back of treads with my female friendly compact circular saw with parallel guide attachment. I installed riser/tread/riser/tread as seen in video which allowed for 1/4 in gap recommended for expansion - riser over back of tread covers up gap. About 16 days later (I have a FT job), my steps are done! I’m every woman with a side of Wonder Woman. Steps are beautiful - see for yourself.
