Turned out great! Measure carefully though! They fit right over my existing 1980s builder grade pine treads. Now my stairs meet current Florida Building Code, and I cant be more pleased. I picked them up at a HD store, which is always an easy experience. One of them had a knick on the nose, but after cutting to size, using wood filler and staining, I can't tell which one it was. Be patient with the time it takes to measure, stain and Poly the treads, and use adhesive made for wood flooring instead of just construction adhesive.

Very nice product, used these instead of laminate for the stair tread. I stained and used polyurethane first, then cut and installed with glue and nails. Used the laminate for the skirts and risers. will do the next stair well with the same product.

I went into this project with enthusiasm then anxiety. I read reviews and saw videos of other women doing it and was encouraged. As I started, I felt like I was in over my head. I learned to take my time and literally take it step by step. It took me 9 days to stain 12 steps, 6 piece landing and nose - I sanded with 220 grit, pre-condition and 1 coat of stain then a bit more stain then 3 coats of poly - one coat a day. I attempted to cut current noses with reciprocating saw - too much power for my 5’3 frame. Compact circular saw and oscillating tool were more female friendly. I liked the look of white bead board for risers with a particle board behind it for total of 3/4 in. thickness. I rented miter saw to cut sides of treads and landing pieces (I used 3/4 in. risers of same red oak as treads for landing). NOTE: I got splitting on first 2 treads that I cut stain side up so HIGHLY RECOMMEND you cut stain side down. I cut back of treads with my female friendly compact circular saw with parallel guide attachment. I installed riser/tread/riser/tread as seen in video which allowed for 1/4 in gap recommended for expansion - riser over back of tread covers up gap. About 16 days later (I have a FT job), my steps are done! I’m every woman with a side of Wonder Woman. Steps are beautiful - see for yourself.

We just refinished our stairs with this product using Tread-Lock adhesive and Minwax pre-stain conditioner and Minwax wood stain and they came out beautifully. (In areas of heavy grain, the stain will sweat from the wood a bit so go back to check it occasionally as it dries so you don't have odd sticky spots). The only reason I give this a 4 of 5 stars is that they are very sensitive to sanding. What I mean is, if you don't sand them at all they will take lots of stain, but if you sand to make them smoother, make sure you do EXACTLY the same thing to each one. For example, I used fine 180 grit very lightly with the best result...but used 220 grit also lightly on another step (ran out of 180) and it accepted far less stain, and one step is lighter than the others. I solved my problem by placing that tread in direct light so the darker one appears to simply be in a shadow...came out fine...just be careful andmethodical. I would totally use these again.

Good for DIY projects. Each one made from 5 pc of oak plank glued together. That's why each unit lookd different. The best way to buy is in the store where you really can see what you pay for. But if you don't care about stairs color matching you can order online. Came late but good packing and not damaged like other people reported.

My project required 16 treads and I was very pleased with the quality of this product. The surfaces were clean and crisp. They only required light sanding before applying stain. Some of the treads had slight cupping from front to back but this is difficult to avoid when using 11.5" wide,1/2" thick oak but it did not interfere with installation or performance. There was no twist or bow across the length of the treads; they were nice and straight. Use of the template tool is a must to get a tight fit against the stringers. There are several Stairtek installation videos on YouTube. There are 2 techniques for dealing with existing bullnose treads. One method removes the bullnose flush with the riser before applying the retread. The other method is to apply spacers at the bottom of the risers so the retreads can be applied over the existing treads. I used the later method to avoid sawing off the overhang.

Makes a DIY redo on our worn stairs beautiful and easy. Nicely milled, sanded and ready to cut and install. Highly recommend using a Tread Tool (treadtool.com) to ensure the treads fit perfectly. We replaced carpeted stairs with red oak treads (stained dark walnut with a hand-rubbed Tung oil finish) and patterned tile risers. The results exceeded expectation!

I am really happy with these steps and would order these again if I was ever going to do redo some stairs. I justed finished the install It was much more difficult than I thought it was going to be. The the house it was put in was built in 1955 and nothing was straight or level. I am a not at all a carpenter by profession though I am slowly learning.

My stairs have 35.5 inch-wide treads, so technically Stairtek’s 36 inch-wide retreads should fit my needs; however, I opted for Stairtek’s 42 inch-wide retreads instead so that I could have more wiggle room. The Stairtek Unfinished Red Oak Retread 0.625 x 11.5 x 42 inches looked good until I started the work. After removing the old carpet, I found that the underlying plywood treads are 11 inches deep. Although Stairtek stated that their retreads were 11.5 inches deep, their measurement included the nosing which meant that the area that could be glued down to my existing plywood tread was only 10.5 inches deep. This posed a problem because after installation, the brad nails on the installed retread was too far out to be covered by the adjacent riser. Furthermore, there was a 1/8-inch gap between the retread and the riser. After further investigation, it turned out that my existing plywood riser was not set vertically; it had an incline towards the stairs at the bottom (see Fig. 3). I put a 5/8-inch shim at the bottom of my existing plywood riser, which allowed the new poplar riser to be installed vertically and as a result, the gap was gone and the brad nails on the retread was covered nicely. Problem solved! I ordered 14 retreads but one of them got a little dented at the nosing. Nonetheless, the product is solid (no pun intended) and the price is right. With the right amount of stain and polyurethane, I was able to turn them into fantastic oak treads for my stairs. Overall, I will give it five stars.

It was very easy to install and I was able to finish the project in one day! I highly recommend buying the stair tool, it makes cutting each tread and riser easier and faster. I would also suggest staining the treads ahead of time, too. We have them in for 4 weeks and I am very pleased with them!

Great product. Stain ready after a light 220 grit sand. Used Minwax Honey 272 on treads and only a poly sealer on the risers. Did one coat of stain and three coats of poly. If your existing treads has a nose cut it off - I used a jig saw. Minor splintering cutting the edges of the treads - I used a circular saw instead of my miter or table. Used adhesive and 2" finishing nails - tried to hide nails with riser edge. I had structural issues with bottom stringer so took much longer to install. Staining took 4 days. Skirt boards took 4 hours. Install of treads and risers after everything was prepped took 6 hours.
