This primed stair riser has one 'finished' side. Both sides are primed, but only one side is smooth enough to be the exposed side when installed. Make sure you measure accordingly before you cut to size, especially if your stair height is not even, because you can't turn it over and use the other side. The finished side is probably good enough to use without another coat of paint, if you want to leave it white, but I painted mine again after installing them, and filling nail holes, etc... The boards were very straight, no warping. Probably a good idea to let them acclimate to your room temperature and humidity for a couple days before measuring and cutting them.

The risers arrived with some cracks and dings, but nothing so serious it couldn’t be worked with. Having them come primed made painting a breeze. This was my first, possibly only, time resurfacing a staircase. Finished project is 1,000 times more appealing than the old, grimy carpet it replaced, plus stairs can now be cleaned with dust mop. No more lugging a vacuum cleaner up and down the stairs.

Chose these risers to re-tread my carpet stairs with hardwood as they were pre-primed. I was impressed with the over-all quality of the smooth finish. All but 1 of the risers were good to paint as is, and only 1 required filling and sanding. I was very happy with the results

Great quality
This thickness was perfect when using it with my Cap a Tread laminate stairs. They cut well with a table saw. The primer paint is quite thick. Nothing transparent about it.

its ok
I ordered five of these and they showed up about a week later. Four of them were in decent shape but the last one split Towards the bottom. If there was a problem with such a small quantity I imagine there would be a problem if you ordered enough for an entire staircase. Also you can probably find something to use that's a little cheaper if you shop around or don't care what kind of wood you use.

The product appeared just fine, but we returned all and went instead with gluing thin vinyl flooring that matched accented the cap-a-tread/stair product. Although this riser was shown to compliment that cap, we were surprised how thick it was, which took away too much of the stair compromising a safe walk up and down.
