Q:How much do you have to sand the table for before staining? I did a quick sand with a mouse sander & 80 grit paper (one light pass, took about 10 mins total) and then applied conditioner & stain. It turned out horribly (see pics)! What did I do wrong?

    Solid DIY Table Made Easy
Overall the table is very sturdy and heavy. We decided to go with a solid wood table after multiple store bought tables didn't hold up to our toddlers. As others have stated, you have to sand a little more aggressive than you think to get the protective coating. I used 220 grit on an electric sander. The top took stain really well and even and the base was easily painted.

      Lovely table and project
I was in the market for a new table, and nothing I was finding used or new was quite what I was looking for. I loved the shape of this table, so I thought I would give it a go. This was my first time finishing a table, and it was a good first project. Make sure to sand the table as the directions say in order to remove all the protective coating so you can stain it. I used one coat of Special Walnut to stain it this color. Then sealed it with a few coats of polyurethane. I love how it turned out! Perfect for dinner and game nights.

      Perfect table
I was looking for a table that I could stain to the color I wished. I used Varathane “Early American” and used a water based poly (also Varathane) but did the third coat with my left over Minwax water based poly and liked that one way better. It’s a solid table (sturdy), easy to stain and assemble. I am glad a made the purchase. I hope it stands up to the test of time especially with toddlers. Which I believe it will. I could sand it down again and redo the poly if anything, unlike most tables being made of mdf and whatnot these days.

        Beautiful
This table is absolutely stunning. Solid wood and so sturdy! We chose to leave it unstained, we just sanded and sealed. It turned out beautiful. It was very easy to put together and only required minimal sanding. It was worth every penny!

          Table cracked
I am so disappointed with this table. I got it and opened it and it was so beautiful. I stained it and it looked amazing, exactly what I wanted. Then it got two small cracks in it. I sanded them down, filled them and tried to ignore them. Then it got a 3rd and 4th crack. One of the cracks continued to get bigger. It was very disappointing because I had already put so much effort into finishing it. I was going to exchange it for a different one but now it’s sold out so I just ended up returning it. Big disappointment.

Very easy to assemble and I love the durability of para wood/ rubber wood furniture. This table is well built and after some sanding, staining, and sealing (my first ever attempt) this table turned out as beautiful as the much more expensive turned leg table that I had been eyeing for a while, while being a much better fit (price and size-wise) for my family. Extremely happy with this purchase.

Wonderfully made and will definitely hold up to many years of daily use In my kitchen. The table is very substantial, heavy wood, with a beautiful top. Yes, it needs a final sanding before finishing, however once sanded it can be finished however you choose. It can be left alone and just sealed, or stained/painted/oiled. I am going to stain the top of mine mine and paint the rest. I just can’t say enough about the construction of it with its well-joined butcher block top and the beautiful legs. The assembly was easy, all of the hardware including a wrench, comes securely fastened to the box. The legs have adjustable levelers so that result is a very sturdy table with no wobble. It does require 2 people to lift it because it’s heavy...but to me that means well made.

A very well-built wooden table. Sturdy, stylish and practical. The table top is made with some type of hard wood from pieces approx. 1 foot long that have been “combed” and glued together to make the 42 x 42-inch table top. The top has a very nice routed-stepped edge all the way around that is pleasing to the eye. The legs are also multiple pieces glued together and then turned. Both parts were very well done and unless you know what you are looking for you would never notice. The underneath support for the legs and the top is outstanding which gives the table its very sturdy stance. Each of the legs has a leveling adjuster so that you can take any wobble out. Hardware was in a bright red bag with a bright red streamer attached so you cannot accidentally throw it away with the packaging. The packaging was very good with all components individually wrapped and corner guards on the top. The OEM states the weight is 65 lbs. but the delivery service thought it was much heavier as it had the yellow “over 75 lbs.” tape on it. Either way this product is heavy enough to be a team lift so two people. Assembly is a breeze, I give it a 2 on a scale of 1-10 and it only took me a total of 20 minutes to attach all 4 legs. There was only one characteristic of this product that I did not like and that was the “clear protective coating” that could be removed by lightly sanding, with my product that was an incorrect statement. This was going to my daughter’s house and she wanted it stained a dark cherry which is miserable to work with so I was not too happy to begin with. So, I lightly sanded with 220 grit and applied the stain, it did not take. Sanded with 150 then 220 and applied the stain, took a little. Now I’m mad so I sanded hard with 80, then 150 and finally with 220 and only then did the stain start to take to most of the wood. Had this not been a dark stain and been a lighter color I may not have had to sand as much but I’m very sure I would be sanding more than “lightly”. Great product, very well made, wish it would come without the clear coat, recommended.

This is a super easy table to assembly and overall looks pretty nice. The table is solidly built and when you get it all you have to do to assemble it is add the four legs to the table using 2 bolts for each leg that are screwed in with a provided Allen wrench. The table has the unfinished look but appears to have a clear coat on it already which is kind of disappointing because I want to paint the base white and stain the table top so I will have some sanding to do before I can do that. The table itself is made from pieces of solid wood. The table top is a bunch of smaller pieces joined together with a teeth joint style to form the 68 inch length of the table. I really don't like that feature of the table because it really kind of cheapens the look of the table. Had they used pieces that were 68 inches in length and maybe a few inches wide i would have given the table 5 stars. The legs look nice and have some nice craved in details. Overall the table appears to be well built and pretty nice looking. My one fault with the table is the table top construction itself. The method they used really gives the table a cheaper look.
