It includes the hose that attaches from the reel to the water spigot; however, the rolled up hose with attached sprayer shown in the picture is not included.

Connecting the hose

am I missing something is there supposed to be an extra piece of hose that comes with this reel like every other to connect to the main faucet this did not have one. if not how do you connect hose and able to reel it up?
Asked by: mortgageman
The product description says it comes with a leader hose. If you didn't get one, you may want to contact Home Depot about the missing piece.

I had a 5/8" 100 ft hose and it left very little room on the spool when wound. I noticed other reviewers mentioned leaks. I was about to return mine for the same problem when I noticed that my garden hose was not lining up to the threading of the out tube. It took about five attempts and I was finally able to get it lined up straight on the threading. A difficult process as the space between the out tube and reel is narrow. Another problem I had was when I started to reel the hose up. The hose kept bending and crimping at the connection to the out tube. I used a zip tie to attach the hose to the upper side of the reel to keep it from bending closed. Since then I have had no problems and it works as described.

Unless you unroll the entire hose, remove the nozzle and the roll it up, most of the hose will have water in it. And that adds A LOT of weight. With that much weight, it wobbles and shakes when it's moved. I'm waiting for it to collapse each time I move it. Although the reel can hold up to 175 ft. of hose, structurally It's designed and better suited for 50 -75 ft., at the most.

The weight of the hose is too great for the poor construction of the hose reel. On the handle side the reel is nothing more than cheap plastic. About two weeks ago I was trying to reel the hose in and the handle side totally collapsed. I had to completely destroy the rest of the cart just to get the hose off the reel. If you only need to store the hose on the cart one time, it's OK. But if you intend to use your hose frequently, go to a metal hose cart. Don't trust Suncast unless they change the design of this cart.

I bought this reel to add to my fleet of 4 of the same unit. I use this reel for off season storage of hoses. I like when it is not in use the crank handle and top handle can be easily folded allowing the units to be stacked taking up little space. This unit will barely reel in 150 feet of empty hose without the crank handle slipping inside the unit. I would imagine this problem would be much worse if the hose was full of water. This hose reel like many others lacks a reel lock allowing the hose to unravel when tie unit is moved. If you are looking to only store empty hoses, this is the reel for you. If you are looking for water delivery, it might be best to look elsewhere.

They are well designed and suited for homeowners and keeping the clutter of hoses out of the way. The only negative is that it is so light that it tends to "wobble" when you reel the hose in. I should have expected this, but thought I didn't have to hold a heavy hose down. My fault on that part. For the occasional user, it is perfect. I'm not sorry I bought two of them, but when and if they wear out, I will buy a heavier built re-tractor for my use. It is good quality and affordable.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Garbage I had one similar to this one for 20 years. It finally gave up the ghost. So I purchased this product. It felt cheaply made, but if it did the job, I can live with that. Well, the thing is not balanced right at all. And, it doesn't have the strength to reel up my 100' hose. I had to crank it so hard, and put my foot on the "pedal", then actually hold the reel down with my forehead! I'm sure it was funny looking, but I wasn't laughing. I returned it after that debacle.

I have four of these units and I have noticed two things about them: First, there has been continual improvement in the inlet and hose-out assemblies. This is where my previous units have failed. I am optimistic the latest design will be longer lasting. Secondly, I think there is an inescapable problem with these things and this is that ultraviolet (sunlight) will eventually degrade the material. Over-all, however, I like these small units and would recommend.
