A: The thermal overload switch will chut the pump off if it starts to over heat and once it cools, if still powered will start up again. This type of cycling is bad for the motor

A: I use mine to pump untreated lake water I draw through the city system. Some times is is pretty cloudy. A couple of times I had to back flush the pump when the water was very turbid. I woulf dudprct large soluds would be a problem. You could filter the water using a sock of linen material.
