Because of the power surge when any motor starts up, I would recommend a generator with a 1000 watt running capability, or larger.

Will the pump work in 2 inches of water, or must it be submerged? Does pump turn off when there is no longer water to pump ?

Hi there, This is a utility pump and does not turn on or off with the water level. You plug it in and out to turn it on and off. It can be started in as little as 1" and will take water down to 1/8" Thanks

How many gallons per minute does the pump pump

Asked by Duckman January 29, 2021

The pump discharge is dependent on the discharge height, but per the manufacturers specifications, it can pump up to 30 gallons per minute at 0' height. My height was about 5' and the specs say it pumped 22 gallons per minute - which seemed accurate. At 10' - 20 GPM; 15' - 16 GPM, 20' - 9 GPM and 25' - 2 GPM.

This pump did what I needed it to do. I submerged it into water I didn’t want to even touch, plugged it in, and it drained my pool/swamp of about 40k gallons without stopping. It had to pump water/pool sludge up from the deep end of the pool “8-10ft” and down a 300ft. hose. I cleaned it out, drained and stored it for next time. Job well done!

Used the pump with 5 gallon Homer bucket , two wading machine hoses and a GFCI adapter to flush and clean our on demand water heater (a Navien). Used with white vinegar and worked well. By piecing together this “kit” saved over 40% compared to buying a ready assembled kit, and for about $100- much less than what local Plumber/HVAC charges. Easy to do, with great how-to demos on youtube. Flush pump out with clean water at end , and store it all in the bucket ready for the next clean out! Only gave it a 4 because ad and documents should more strongly emphasize need to use a GFCI for safety.

Fine quality product, purchased online, as what was in the store did not meet my needs. I use this to back flush vinegar thru my Noritz Gas Tankless water heater. It has the power and durability to do a great job and fits easily in my 5 gallon bucket that I use for this procedure. Small enough to store easily when not in use

I bought this pump for a water feature. I set in in a 169 gallon, galvanized, oval cattle water trough. The water is pumped up to my gutter through a garden hose remnant and then flows to downspout which I replaced with 3 inch pvc pipe which I attached horizontally to house. The water shoots out end of pvc into trough and when pump is plugged in it simply circulates. I think it's cool. I sit in garage just a few feet from trough and enjoy the sound and looks of the flowing water.

A good pump for small projects
This is a perfect pump for smaller projects. I use this for draining small spas. I also use it for descaling my tankless water heater. The 10 foot cord (really 9.5 feet) is plenty long for small pumping projects and you can clean the bottom screen by removing 3 stainless steel screws. It includes a carry handle, and an anti-airlock hole. It has the garden hose adapter so you just connect the hose and go. I used it on a 100 foot hose and it worked fine. It also allows up to 1-1/4 NPT discharge. For medium or large projects, step up to the 1/2 HP. Also I find that anything over 6 foot deep, you lose a lot of pumping performance, so for deeper waters, go to the 1/2 HP.

Solid Performer
I got this small pump primarily for emergency purposes, although I also intend to use it occasionally for swimming pool and water heater maintenance. I am a firm believer that because water is such a destructive force, having a pump on hand that can remove water to a very low level, is great “insurance.” In that regard, this pump does not disappoint. The manual that comes with the pump states it will pump down to 1/4” of the surface, and my tests at the top step of my pool, where the water level was about 3/4” above the surface of the step, seemed to support this claim (see picture). The pump put out a strong stream of water even when pumping at that shallow water level. The pump comes with a 10’ electric cord, which is a real plus because it allows for operation at a safe distance from the water supply without having to resort to any risk inherent to using an extension cord near water. The pump is only operated by plugging/unplugging the electric cord, there is no “switch” per se. There is a small “T” handle at the top to carry the pump, or to use as a grab point to retrieve the pump from the water with a hook, which can be a useful way to fetch it from down below. The only criticism I would offer, as other reviewers may have noted, is that the garden hose fitting, like the entire unit, is also made of plastic. I found it VERY easy to mis-thread the garden hose, so if you’re not careful and try to force your garden hose on when it’s not properly threaded, it is very easy to ruin the pump fitting. I really don’t understand why this component is not fabricated from metal, because the metal thread of the garden hose will win every time, when meeting a plastic component. All said, I was pleasantly surprised by the strong streaming power of this small unit, which I suggest makes it a great value, perhaps even “priceless” if you’re facing a water emergency. If you just take precaution when attaching your garden hose, you won’t be disappointed with the performance and features of this pump.
