Definitely Hard Wood
I was not able to purchase a readymade wooden ladder in the needed length for my Cockatiel 'Elvis', so I purchased this ¾" hardwood dowel at Home Depot so I could make what I needed. After drilling 18 holes in the dowel for the steps, I can verify that it is definitely Hard wood. Elvis appreciated both my effort and the hardwood dowel.
