This timer features a rain-sensor port to accommodate a remote sensor to suspend watering when it rains to help prevent water waste (remote sensor not included).

Does this timer accommodate a battery to prevent loss of time during power outages?

AnswersYou will lose the clock during power outages, even with battery. It will remember your watering schedule, but when your clock gets reset after a power outage, you'll we watering at some whack time of the day. This is where this timer sucks.
Does it include the wiring

AnswersNo, but you may want to plan ahead when you buy the wiring. Consider getting the 6 or 8 wire in the event you'd like to expand coverage. Also be sure to check the solenoids every 2 years and tighten as the wiring tends to loosen over time. Good choice and good luck!

AnswersI suppose you could replace any brand sprinkler timer with this. In my experience they are all about the same. This particular model is on the lower end of the curve and does not have as many user friendly options as the more expensive timers. It is still working however and I'm still using mine.

AnswersNeed to find your control valves. I looked for mine for several years. Found them by accident when repair a irrigation head. Best thing I did was to put all the control valves in one box and cleaned out the soil around them. When my control head was destroyed by lightning, it really simplified the repair as a wire to one of the zones was zapped.

This unit functioned well from September 2016 to today, July 2017. I came outside this morning, 40 minutes after my sprinkler turned on, and found my sprinkler still running on zone 1. My system has 3 zones. Each zone was set to run for 10 minutes, consecutively. Had I not been home, I would have come home in the evening to find zone 1 still running. I switched the dial to 'off', but zone 1 would not shut off. I turned the dial to every setting, and zone 1 would still not shut off. I had to turn the sprinkler off at the spigot (water valve) outside. I then tried to manually select zones 2 and 3. Zone 1 is the only one being activated. I unplugged and reset the unit. Zone 1 is still the only one being activated. Here is another interesting thing. Zone 1 is turns on whether the dial is on 'off' or 'run'. I unplugged the unit, and I'll be replacing it.
Good replacement for a 25 year old product.

The Toro sprinkler control was easy to install and the directions to program the unit were easily inputted and the controller works like a charm. Very pleased with everything including the on line purchase and pick up at my local store.

Online description didn't mention this is for inside installation only. When I received the timer the instructions indicated it was NOT for outside installation. I returned it.
