Q:Does this model grill that can use two meat probes simultaneously ?
by|Jun 22, 2024

Answer This Question

A:  Hi, and thanks for your inquiry regarding the Ironwood XL. Both the Ironwood and Ironwood XL, as well as the Timberline and Timberline XL, can actually have 3 different probes being used at one time. While all models come with a wired meat probe, the Ironwood and Ironwood XL can also be upgraded with two X MEATER wireless probes, which interface directly with the Traeger app and are available right from Home Depot (just search by item # BAC618). These same probes come standard with the new Timberline and Timberline XL, but are not compatible with any other models, including the Ironwood 650 & 885, or the Timberline 850 & 1300. However, if 3 probes are still not enough, or you just want the wireless convenience of a MEATER probe that uses its own standalone app and works with any grill, there is the MEATER Plus, MEATER Pro (also known as the MEATER 2 Plus) and the four probe MEATER Block, all of which are available through Home Depot.

Q:Good morning, this is a relatively new purchase and I'm noticing the seal on the door is not tight, permitting heat and smoke to escape. It almost appears the door is not closing properly. We paid entirely too much to be having an issue and wondering

    Answer This Question

A:  Hello, and thanks for posting your question regarding the Ironwood XL. It is not uncommon for a little smoke to be seen coming from the edges of the lid as long as it isn’t excessive. However, if the grill is having a hard time maintaining temperature, it could possibly be due to a gap between the lid and the body, though it is pretty rare for this to happen. Additionally, if smoke is coming out more from one particular section, it might just be something to do with the lid gasket, which is easy to verify and correct. But regardless of the specific details, the best approach is contacting Traeger Customer Service when you’re with the grill. One of our agents will be happy to go over everything with you, and can even take a look at the lid through the camera on your phone. Our lines are open until 10:00 PM MT at 1-800-TRAEGER, any day of the year, so when you have a little time, give us a call and we’ll take it from there.

Q:What models are these? They look like the Ironwood and Ironwood XL? or are these specifically made for Home Depot? Do these units come with super smoke? Thanks
      by|May 6, 2024

      Answer This Question

A:  Hello, and thanks for your interest in the Traeger Ironwood. There are currently four versions of the Ironwood grill available at this time. Along with the original Ironwood 650 and 885, Traeger now has the new Ironwood (the one from this page) and Ironwood XL. In addition to the same features that come on the earlier models, such as WiFIRE technology, Super Smoke, downdraft exhaust, pellet sensor and insulation, just to name a few, the Ironwood and Ironwood XL also have an advanced touchscreen controller, integrated MEATER probe functionality (probes sold separately), and the Pop-And-Lock front/side rails for attaching all the new P.A.L. accessories. And while they are not exclusively available through one outlet, all four models can be purchased from Home Depot.

Q:What is the weight limit of the bottom shelf? How many pellet holders can it safely hold?
        by|Apr 6, 2024
        1 Answer
        Answer This Question

A:  Hello, and thanks for your question regarding the Ironwood XL. The bottom shelf has a capacity of 60 lbs. With the typical bag of Traeger pellets weighing about 20 lbs. each, it may hold as many as three, depending on the container size and weight, but putting pellets from one of the containers into the hopper first should be enough to compensate. However, there is a grease and ash keg that is positioned on the left side, under the main body of the grill, which may obstruct some taller containers.

          Unbelievably Easy and Tasty!
Just started on the carnivore diet and wanted a more diverse option of foods. I did some research on what type of smoker I wanted and decided on the ease of the Traeger. I've made Brisket and Pork Burnt Ends so far and both were AMAZING! Better than any BBQ joint in town!

This my second smoker and it was a huge upgrade. I was impressed with the quality but there are still adjustments to be made. You’ll have to see where the hot spots are since this will affect your cook. Mine tends to be hotter on the left side. Overall I really recommend this grill. It was expensive but well worth it. The only thing I didn’t like about this purchase was that they delivered an already assembled product off the store floor. It was scratched and missing screws. Home Depot customer service took care of this for me.

          Best Grill I've ever owned!
I love my new Ironwood XL. I upgraded from my 780 Pro which was my first ever Traeger. I also bought the Flat Rock at the same time as the new Ironwood. Having cooked on the Ironwood multiple times, I can say its the best decision I've ever made. The only con that I can find with this grill is the lid. On my 780 Pro I was able to keep the grill within 10 inches or less of the brick wall and be able to open the lid all the way. With the new Ironwood XL lid I have to pull the grill out a min of 20 to 24 inches from the wall in order to open the lid all the way. On the bright side you get a lot more room with this lid design. If you are on the fence.....BUY IT!

            Best upgrade we’ve made.
Sine the first fire up, unless we have left overs, we have used this for every dinner. I know smoking would be fun but WOW. Food never tasted so good

            New Ironside
Easy to put together. One of the easiest grills I ever put together. Only used a couple of times so far but the features on this model are awesome. Well worth every penny I paid. Easy clean up. The easy port to empty the pellets is the greatest feature for cleaning after use is awesome. Treager has truly giving a lot of thought into their design. Thank Treager

              Awesome New Upgrades
I got this last weekend. I upgraded from my 575pro. It kept the temp great even in the colder weather and had it in time to cook a Super Bowl spread. My smoke flavor has increased, and love, love, love the new clean out system. Worth the price of the upgrade. I was in the process of upgrading to a Timberline 1300 and was able to switch to the Ironwood XL 30 minutes before they were they were going to deliver it. I am glad I saw it in the store while picking up accessories for what would have been my new Timberline 1300 I highly recommend this grill to anyone contemplating on upgrading or the new Timberline is out of your price range.

                Great Smoker....except one key element
the smoker is great...love the app and the functionality. Only giving it 4 stars because the temps displayed by the grill are WAY off....as much as 30 degrees. I had to buy another vendors device to accurately monitor temp.

Love my Iron Wood 885 after one year. Note issues.
I have owned the Ironwood 885 one year. It has made me look good over and over. Primary reason I purchased it was to smoke large batches of lake trout and salmon. The smoked fish after a couple smokes is perfect. I will smoke 20# of chicked quarters at a time. Makes perfect checken for salad, barbecue, enchiladsa, tacos, etc. Same with pork shoulder. Ribs are easy for a beginner to make perfect ribs. I failed on a flat cut brisket. Overcooked it. I will try again with a 15 pound brisket soon. Issues I had are minimal and easily correctable by the end user. My meat probe became inaccurate. I do not know for sure when or if it was not right when new. I bought an instant read meat thermometer and will see what traeger might do for me in that regard. I had a fire cooking wings. I used super smoke at 180 for 45minutes then raised the temp to 375. We noticed that we should turn them all. The smoker was full of wings. We started turning them by removing the top rack. We were nearly done flipping the bottom rack when flames ignite from the drip pan. The temp went up to 900 degrees quickly and shut down the smoker automatically. We surmised the burner was burning full on from having the lid open turning the wings. Flames were reaching to a height even with the open lid. We were cooking under our garage breezway. We salvaged most of the wings. The fire went out quickly as the chicken grease was exhausted and the burner shut down. The burner did come on on its own as the temp subsided. I should have unplugged it. I should have reduced the temp setting way doen before opening the lid that long with the full load of chicken wings grease in the drip pan. Of note the drip pan was properly installed. There was very little grease in the grease catch bucket. I used treager aluminum drip pan covers. Seems there should have been more grease in the grease catch not covering the pan where it can ignite. A heads up to staff and end users. I will appreciate any assistance getting a new heat project. I would give 5 stars other than these 2 issues. Love my treager!!!
