Questions & Answers

1Question
caret
Q:When doing a spot test, how to tell whether my plan is sensitive to the oil or not?

Answer This Question

A:  When using the Viagrow OMRI certified neem oil, we do recommend spot checking your plants with the premix prior to spraying all your plants. This simply means to test a small area or leaf on your plant with pre-mix to assure there is no ill effects.

Neem oil is a natural way to prevent insects. I kept getting recommended this product for pest management so I decided to try it out. I'll admit I was a little skeptical but I've been using it for a couple weeks and my usually mowed down vegetable seedlings look bug-less and are growing well. Thrips and aphids were pretty prevalent before. It is almost effortless you add some to your water with a bit of dish soap and water like normal, easy peasy!

This neem oil might be great but also might be terrible. At this point, I don't know because I literally CANNOT open the bottle. I got my sprayer, measuring glass and soap all ready but when it was time to mix the neem into the water, I took the green lid off with ease. Then I got to some sort of plug in the top. Not sure if it's meant to be there or if it's a manufacturer error but it won't come off. Tried a butter knife to pry the edges, then pliers so I don't lose a finger. No luck. Maybe drilling through the top is the next option. :/

Viagrow is a great brand with reliable products, and their Neem Oil is no exception. It blends easily with water (though I do recommend using warm water, for better mixing) making it easy to apply to your plants. It's still quite early in our growing season, but so far all of our little plantlings are growing strong and pest-free! My only complaint is not about the product, but the packaging: the pill-bottle design is not the easiest for measure out a goopy liquid into measuring spoons, at least not without a little messy dripping.

Good Value. Small. Makes 8 Gallons. ============================================================ The bottle was well sealed and survived shipping without any leaking. It is highly concentrated and a small bottle (8 0z) will make 8 gallons! The ingredients are pure neem oil and the instructions call for blending it with dish soap and water. The soap likely helps it combine with the water. I prefer concentrates to “ready to use” solutions as they save space and are often less expensive and have longer shelf life. This product represents a good value compared to neem products I have purchased in the past. Note: a warning on the package says that pure neem oil solidifies at cool temperatures; so, storage at room temperatures will ensure it is ready when you need it.

I have always bought Neem Oil in the ready to use variety, and those usually last two growing seasons. This should last me 4 or 5 growing seasons, since it is a concentrate. If you have fruit trees you need to spray them several times a year with a fungicide and Neem Oil to protect the tree from fungus and small insects that like to eat the leaves.

Amazing! Proof is in the pictures. I've tried other products to control the gnats around my plants with no real results. This one works. The picture of the tack strip to catch them that's full of gnats was just before our first treatment of neem oil. The other photo of just a few on the strip is after the first week of use. Enough said. Only negative I have to say is the cap is very hard to get pried off.

I had never heard of Neem Oil before so I looked it up. Wow! this stuff is amazing for both your plant especially your edible vegetables . Its safe for humans, your pets and animals if used properly. Also this stuff goes along way. one tsp per quart or 1 ounce per gallon. 8 ounces makes 8 gallons yet at the top of the page it say it makes 12 gallons.

The 8 ounce bottle of Viagrow Neem Oil is a concentrate so be sure to follow the directions on the bottle regarding how to prepare it for use in the garden. Only 1 teaspoon of neem oil is added to a quart of water along with 1 ½ teaspoons of a mild dish soap. I used room temperature tap water and Dawn Ultra. The product has an expiration date so be careful when deciding what size bottle to purchase. The concentrate is very economical compared to the ready to use product. An 8 ounce bottle makes 12 gallons of solution to spray. I’m hopeful that using neem oil on my roses will prevent black spot on the foliage this summer. I also plan to use it on my clematis vines and tomatoes. Neem oil appears to be a safe and effective product that controls insect pests and diseases in the garden. However, it is not harmful to beneficial insects and is safe around birds. The Viagrow brand is 100% cold pressed neem oil and is free from water and additives.

Neem oil comes from the fruits and seeds of the neem evergreen tree. It is a great product for organic gardening. I have used this product numerous times and it works for my needs, which are treating vegetable plants from insects and minor diseases. Although I didn't see it listed on the Viagrow product, usually neem oil treats insects and mites, aphids, whiteflies, snails, nematodes, mealybugs, cabbage worms, gnats, moths, cockroaches, flies, termites, mosquitoes, and scale. I used it on scale that appeared on my crepe myrtles and the neem oil killed it. The Viagrow product is 8 oz., which makes 8 gallons. You must add dish soap also, which helps to be a surfactant to let the neem oil stick better. I spray the stems and ground of most of my plants, especially the squashes as they are prone to squash vine borer attacks. See attached video. I feel safe using the product as it is non toxic. On the other hand, I don't eat anything that I spray for a least three days, then only after a good rinse.

I put the neem oil in warm water to make more viscus prior to mixing with water, as instructed. I sprayed a heavily spider mite infested plant while lights were off, both underside of the leaves and on top of the leaves, and the results were amazing. The plant looks healthy and the bugs have been eradicated! I am going to use natural products on my little plants from now on.
