About This Product

Viagrow Premium Coarse and chunky Vermiculite is a natural soil amendment that promotes moisture retention and aeration in potting mixes and delivers vital elements to the plant roots resulting in better root development, growth rates and yields. Viagrow coarse vermiculite can be mixed with Peat moss, mushroom compost, cactus soil, organic soil, bark, perlite, compost, coconut coir, worm casting, potting soil and just about any soil or soilless media. Viagrow Vermiculite naturally attracts and holds positively charged ions, like potassium, magnesium, calcium, and ammonium, releasing these vital elements to the plant roots. It even contains potassium and magnesium, which are then available as a supplemental slow-release supply of essential nutrients. Coarse Vermiculite is great for container gardens, square foot gardening, raised bed gardens, green house mixes, mushroom cultivation, and hydroponic drip systems. Viagrow chunky Vermiculite has been developed with Successful Growing in Mind with a negative charge, it provides an excellent cation-exchange capacity which promotes healthy bacteria in your growing media and attracts and holds positively charged ions, improves water retention, wettability, has pH stability in soilless mixtures and exhibits greater particle strength. For a great soilless mix: combine 30% Viagrow coarse vermiculite with 30% Viagrow perlite VPER1 or VPER4 and 40% Viagrow coconut coir VCCB5 or VCCB650-3.

Great stuff, cuts down on your water usage
Great for our planters, keep water longer and absorbs it. Kind of looks neat, gold color to it. Spread it out on all of our planter and you don't have to water as much. would recommend to family and friends no doubt, Will buy again but they give you alot so it will last a long time. Nice to have specially during summer season and Spring season.

Good quality vermiculite for soil amendment.
I bought some flowering trees from the local HD, but the local soil is poor and requires an amendment. This vermiculite seems ideal for that task. It's been quite a few years since I bought vermiculite, but this type seems to be in larger chunks. You get a very large bag, which goes a long way. I am hopeful that the young trees that I just planted will benefit from the vermiculite retaining water and helping to break up the clay soil.

Viagrow Vermiculite, Coarse and Chunky (4 cubic foot bag/25.71 US gallons/113 liters)
This is our first time using the coarse and chunky vermiculite. We used it outside in an area that usually dries out quickly and is also next to the driveway, so it gets extra hot. I mixed it in the soil with compost and used it as a mulch. We planted a Lantana plant; the vermiculite did help to keep the moisture in the soil, so there was less watering. I forgot to take a picture before I pulled the plant out to overwinter it. This spring we will use more of it in that area and work it into the soil. We are also using it for a geranium cutting, which is mostly vermiculite with a little starter mix; it should work, since the product soaks up the water. When it warms up, I will use some in the garden where it is more sand. We like that it doesn't get moldy, compared to cocoa bean mulch and cotton hulls that we have also use. So far, it works great; we like it.

As Good As Any In A Convenient Big Bag
We really like this product especially in the spring when we start our plants for the season. Both vegetables and flowers benefit from adding some vermiculite in your potting or planting mix in the areas you are planting. It can hold 4 times its own weight in water and nutrients helping with the plants especially when they are just getting started. It also adds a looser base for roots as they grow and create aeration throughout the pot or other planting areas. Super easy and light to work with, so give it a try, we dont plant without it!

High quality natural mineral soil additive for effective seed germination and seedling growth
Vermiculite is a natural mica mineral that is sterile and helps prevent soil mold and bacteria that rot the roots of your seedlings. It breaks up the soil and retains moisture in the soil. Add it to the soil in your raised beds or pots and use to start strong seedlings. This coarse variety will really improve your soil. Investing in the 4 cu.ft. bags will save money, as it averages about $20/cu.ft. The individual 1 cu.ft. bags can be $30 to $40 each. It's worth it for better results for seed germination and seedling growth, since it takes time and money to set up your plantings. The Viagro brand has very high reviews for quality and effectiveness. Highly recommended.

helped my potted plants
My wife has a habit of getting plants that aren't really for our area, and then keeping them inside with little luck. We got this olive tree last year, and this vermiculite has really kept it happy. We used this with a blend of coconut coir, worm casing, and potting soil, and this has kept things well-watered, and happy. For use in a potted plant, I thought this worked exceptionally well. Keeps things moist, and roots dry. The bag is huge too, so I've been able to use it for a bunch of different plants.

Completely changed my dry clay into great garden soil
This course and chunky Viagrow Vermiculite was just what I needed to amend my dry soil. My flowers are so much happier now that they are growing in soil that has better moisture retention and aeration. Because the vermiculite "fluffs up" the soil, the roots have an easier time growing - resulting in much better root growth and development, plant growth and bigger, better flowers. I mixed in a little mushroom compost and my flowers grew like crazy. According to the website "Viagrow Vermiculite attracts and holds positively charged ions, like potassium, magnesium, calcium and ammonium, releasing these vital elements to the plant roots." All I know is it makes for much healthier plants and much looser, more moisture retentive soil. I also added it to my new plantings by mixing it with mulch to give my hydrangeas a good start.

Excellent for improving sandy soil
Ordered the vermiculite for potting plants and cuttings and improving sandy soil in Florida. I add the product to potting soil about half and half to increase water retention and aeration. Also like to use it straight without potting soil to better maintain moisture for rooting cuttings after applying root stimulator. Overall it is nice a clean inorganic planting material for indoor plants, hydroponic gardening, and generally improving water retention and aeration for plantings in the landscape and I have had excellent results.

You get a lot!
Large bag at 4 cubic ft of medium size coarse chucks of vermiculite perfect for outside planters and garden spaces. I found mixing this vermiculite in my vegetable garden really aids to help keeping soil moist in our drier climate and sandy soil. I use it in all my outside flower pots and have noticed a definite improvement in my flowers staying happy between watering. This has also worked great to use for my orchids that need a soil-less medium.
