Grass Seed Buying Guide
Vigoro Bermuda Blend with Water Saver Seed Coating contains improved varieties of self-repairing Bermuda grasses. The coated seeds retain 6X more water than uncoated seeds, gradually releasing water back to the plant during the establishment phase of your lawn. The seed coating also adds nutrients and fungicide to promote quick root growth and protect the seedlings from disease. This VIGORO blend thrives in warm sunny areas and is guaranteed to grow.

I am very impressed with the germination rate of this seed. This performs as well as much more expensive turf type fescue I have used in the past. I will definitely buy this again. This grew in non-ideal growing conditions - little rain, little sprinkling on my part. I planted in early April in North Carolina and these pictures are from May 31st. Wow!

VIGORO 7 lbs. Tall Fescue Grass Seed Blend with Water Saver Seed Coating is an excellent product. I actually tested it against another premium quality seed preferred locally and it germinated approximately a full week sooner and produced stronger growth without a lot of watering. We had a rather dry couple of weeks after I planted the bare spots and, admittedly, was very pleased with the rapid germination. Another plus, the percentage of Vigoro seed that germinated was higher than the other brand which surprised me as well. I usually mix this 30/60 with contractors blend because the fescue is slower to germinate but I love the look and feel later in the summer.

I plant grass once or twice each year for the past 26 years. I have chosen this seed because the house shadows the lawn from zero in the summer to 95% in the winter when the shadow is long across the back yard on the North side of the home. I have a fairly well established lawn, a very short tight hybrid Bermuda whose seeds cost as much as sushi grade salmon. But through the winter, the lawn has 95% shadow coverage in mid day, so this sunny type of grass goes dormant in the winter; the sunny grass seed does not well survive in the winter with more shade. So tall Fescue comes to the rescue... but slowly. I planted 70% more seed than was called for. I expected a FAR better result. Patiently Ill wait 2 more weeks. I assume that some seeds are slower and planting conditions slightly vary. I seem to have had a 5 to 50% sprouting rate. The seed sprouted in 7 days and after 14 days, is now over 2" tall in some areas!. Some seeds are still just beginning to sprout. Some large areas show no signs of any sprouting even in full sun!. The nights are in the high 60's and the days are in the high 90's, so it should be hot enough for a great sprouting. The ground was prepared, the topper was a finely screened topper; and is like a fine soil. It was therefore easy to completely cover the seed with just 1/8 inch covering with no lumps, breaks in even topper resulting in no exposed seeds. I hand sprinkle or auto sprinkler the 1000 sq ft area 3 or 4 times per day to keep it moist but not wet. This is the worst sprouting I've seen since May 2016 when I planted a hybrid, sun only seed. This has been an even over-seeding on a perfectly scalped lawn. All the lawn has come back strong but the over seeded barren areas have very thinly covered with short to 2" tall spindly grass blades. It must be social distancing. Ha ha I do expect more seed will germinate and come up in June. Green is very important to me..

Vigoro 5 Lbs. Bermuda Grass Seed Blend With Water Saver Seed Coating worked wonders on some bald spots in my yard. I'd accidentally used some fertilizer not meant for my grass and burned it up. My yard is Bermuda/Saint Augustine mix so the seeds worked perfectly to repair the spots I messed up. Seeds started growing with a few weeks and after about a month and half had fully filled in the spot. Required regular watering daily and I fertilized my lawn once per month during to speed up growing will killing some of the unwanted weeds. Grass grew beautiful, rich green. I recommend this product just make sure this grass is good for your region prior to ordering. Disclaimer: I received this product at no-cost in exchange for an honest review.

I'm very happy with this product. I live in hot, humid South Florida so I made sure to water it in the morning and evening. If it was an extremely hot day then I would water once more mid day. I saw growth within 3 days and the photos that I've attached were a 9 day difference. April 20, 2021 to April 29, 2021. I'll add more seeds to the bare spots that I missed. I didn't use any special products with it, I just threw the seeds by hand.

Great seed overseeing or new lawns; I’ve used it for both. (I do mix it with Vigoro Sun and Shade and a Kentucky Blue Grass, Vigoro or what’s available. I live on the Western Slope of the Sierra’s 31 miles West of So Lake Tahoe Ca. where drought is a major concern. This grass grows very stout and will survive heat and lack of water for very long periods of time if not mowed to short!)

The Vigoro Sun Shade Grass Seed Mix is perfect all-purpose grass seed. Perhaps I tend to spread the seed a bit thicker than most (I don't like to have to keep reseeding), but I found that only one bag of the Vigoro Sun Shade Grass Seed Mix didn't cover an area as big as I'd have liked. I used peat moss to cover the seed and raked it all in to the existing lawn.

The Vigoro Dense Shade Grass Seed Mix is just what I needed for those North-facing shaded areas where grass has always struggled to grow. Perhaps I tend to spread the seed a bit thicker than most (I don't like to have to keep reseeding), but I found that only one bag of the Vigoro Dense Shade Grass Seed Mix didn't cover an area as big as I'd have liked. Guaranteed to grow or your money back—there isn’t much more to be said. AZ lawns are almost all Bermuda, and the coated seed holds moisture to help with germination and keeps disease at bay while it gets established. This 5 lb bag will overseed 5,000 sf or will be good for 2,000 sf of new lawn. For reseeding, I just mow it low, get rid of the thatch (I only give it a 50% effort, but that’s enough for this), and make sure the top ¼” of the dirt on bare ground is loose. Then just keep the surface wet for 2-3 weeks, so in the Phoenix area we run the sprinklers for 10 minutes every four hours for a week, then dial it back to 5 minutes every four hours for the next two weeks. After that we can water once per day through the summer and this stays nice. After summer has passed and the Bermuda goes dormant, we mow it low and dethatch (doing a much better dethatch this time) and overseed with rye from Vigoro. The two grasses work well together, and our results from Vigoro are always good. After the soil reaches 70+ degrees overnight, the Bermuda just comes back, and I use Vigoro seed to fill in bare spots from where my kids and dogs may have played a little too vigorously. This is a dependable seed.

One thing I was trying to figure out with the Vigoro Sun and Shade grass seed was the type of grass seed it had in it. No where does it state the type of grass seed is in the package. it only says it is a blend. I aerated my lawn and raked out the dead grass initially. I had treated the soil with fertilizer 3 weeks prior to seeding as was recommended. It has now been 2 weeks and I am just starting to see some gemination but no a lot. I water twice a day so lets see what happens in the next week or so. I have used this product in the past and have had positive results. I just need to weather to comply as well.
