Answer This Question

A:  A Tall Fescue blend or Bermuda blend would be a good choice. Only use Bermuda if you live in the south, deep south.

              A:  Recommend waiting until spring.

A:  Soil temps have to be above 65 degrees.  Stick a thermometer into the soil.  Probably check first thing in the morning around 7am.  That’s when it’s coldest.  I would also not recommend this brand.  It’s common Bermuda.  Find a seeded hybrid Bermuda instead.  Usually you’ll want to seed in April.

                  Nice sturdy grass.
Slow but fills in nicely. About 40% will come in. But at the price, just keep putting down every few weeks and it will cover. I am doing an area 15 ft x 38 ft and it is slowly working.

                  Grew in just 5 days!
I bought a house that had freshly laid sod in the winter. Unfortunately, alot of the sod didn't take before the frost got to it and I was left with several dead spots. I raked up the dead grass and tried several "premium" seeds with little to no growth. Tried bringing in river silt, watering everyday, and spend hundreds trying to get the grass to grow. Fast forward to the middle of August, and I came across this seed. Within 5 days, I started seeing growth. Super happy.

                    GRASS NEVER GREW!!
Followed directions on package for Vigoro Coated Grass Seed Bermuda Blend. Also used a seed starter. Grass never grew. Went to Home Depot for refund. They referred me to Vigoro. Difficult to figure out what address to send info to. Feels like I'm running in circles. Should have just had sod put in.

                      Not happy
The seed did not grow. It's been about 2 weeks and I've watered it. I don't know if it washed away or if the birds ate it or if the seed was old but it did not grow.

Vigoro 5 Lbs. Bermuda Grass Seed Blend With Water Saver Seed Coating worked wonders on some bald spots in my yard. I'd accidentally used some fertilizer not meant for my grass and burned it up. My yard is Bermuda/Saint Augustine mix so the seeds worked perfectly to repair the spots I messed up. Seeds started growing with a few weeks and after about a month and half had fully filled in the spot. Required regular watering daily and I fertilized my lawn once per month during to speed up growing will killing some of the unwanted weeds. Grass grew beautiful, rich green. I recommend this product just make sure this grass is good for your region prior to ordering. Disclaimer: I received this product at no-cost in exchange for an honest review.

I'm very happy with this product. I live in hot, humid South Florida so I made sure to water it in the morning and evening. If it was an extremely hot day then I would water once more mid day. I saw growth within 3 days and the photos that I've attached were a 9 day difference. April 20, 2021 to April 29, 2021. I'll add more seeds to the bare spots that I missed. I didn't use any special products with it, I just threw the seeds by hand.

So far, I'm able to get some bermuda grass to grow. Seeding is a great option if you already have grass and want to fill in a few bare/patchy spots at a low cost, or if you want to plant a new lawn on a fairly flat area. If you have a hill, I would recommend sod for new lawn implementations just because of the potential runoff in heavy rain while the grass is not fully established. Bermuda is considered a weed grass in some areas, but other areas love it. It spreads well and looks pretty good (in my opinion). It does require more sun than other grass varieties, though, so if you have a lot of trees, the bermudagrass may not do well under them. I got this seed a little early in the spring to plant outside, so for testing/review purposes, I planted a few seeds indoors in a small planter. I was able to get the seeds to sprout and will likely transfer the grass to a bare spot outside once the grass establishes itself a bit more. Not all of the seeds sprouted, but that may be due to my planting indoors and not enough sunlight. I also did not use any fertilizer in the soil.

Guaranteed to grow or your money back—there isn’t much more to be said. AZ lawns are almost all Bermuda, and the coated seed holds moisture to help with germination and keeps disease at bay while it gets established. This 5 lb bag will overseed 5,000 sf or will be good for 2,000 sf of new lawn. For reseeding, I just mow it low, get rid of the thatch (I only give it a 50% effort, but that’s enough for this), and make sure the top ¼” of the dirt on bare ground is loose. Then just keep the surface wet for 2-3 weeks, so in the Phoenix area we run the sprinklers for 10 minutes every four hours for a week, then dial it back to 5 minutes every four hours for the next two weeks. After that we can water once per day through the summer and this stays nice. After summer has passed and the Bermuda goes dormant, we mow it low and dethatch (doing a much better dethatch this time) and overseed with rye from Vigoro. The two grasses work well together, and our results from Vigoro are always good. After the soil reaches 70+ degrees overnight, the Bermuda just comes back, and I use Vigoro seed to fill in bare spots from where my kids and dogs may have played a little too vigorously. This is a dependable seed.

Depending on how much of an area you have to cover, this one pound bag might not be enough. I only have a small area to cover so it should fill in ok. It is drought resistant which is great here in Florida. I have watered it every day for a week to get it to grow to fill in a thin area. So far it is coming in slowly, but I expect it to fill everything in just fine.

The Vigoro Bermuda grass seed is very clean, no hulls and each seed is coated to keep bugs from eating it or carrying it off. The coating also makes the seed hold moisture so it will germinate sooner. The instructions on the bag tell you everything you will need to know to get the largest amount of seed to take hold and start growing. The nighttime temperatures are slowing me down a bit but I am sure I will get a good area covered in green and stabilize the soil.
