Q:When it rains will my garden flood due to the low drainage through material or does it drain fast.. i have not put mulch yet because when I water the plants the water sits on top

Answer This Question

A:  I have this put down but not covered yet. It doesn't drain at all. Water stands overnight. I'm disappointed as the info here on the website says it drains. And it was the most expensive. If you need drainage this isn't it.

This product does not let water through. This product will kill your plants or trees. I tested it before installing it. The water just pooled up and never drained through. Although they advertise that it does.

        Great Pliable Poly Fabric
Thick and pliable! Works great for the cobble stone landscape o used it for! Cannot comment on weed control yet but got a feeling it will be great!

Does not allow water to penetrate at a fast pace
Buyers beware, if you are using this on a sloped landscape, water will not penetrate fast enough and cause more runoff than penetration. If you need good water filtration buy the medium grade vigoro fabric. I recommend it only for weed blocking on flat grounds

          Not Permeable, SHRINKS in sun
Planned and planted my first cutting garden on May 5. It rained immediately after and the next day I noticed a lot of puddling on fabric which seemed weird considering it’s supposed to allow water to seep through. That was the first red flag. After a few weeks I realized the fabric looked more taut than when I initially installed it and discovered the fabric had shrunk??? The seeds I planted were growing up at an angle because of the shift in the fabric (I burned hundred of holes for the flowers) and the transplants were being pushed over. I thought it would be comparable to a similar fabric from Johnny’s Select Seeds but it is not. Very disappointed especially after planting 200 ft of flowers in it.

Not the landscape fabric you want for plants
This is not the landscape fabric you want if you are planting plants. It is basically like a plastic tarp. Even though it says it’s permeable it doesn’t seem to be at all. You can cut holes for your plants but I wanted more water flow than just a small hole. I also didn’t want puddles in my mulch. It might work under swingset mulch or something like that but don’t be fooled when it says the water will flow through. The water in the picture say there like that for hours, until I removed it.

This is very heavy duty but will allow rain to drain right through. I am using it under my high tunnel to keep weeds at bay and we are walking all over it with no concerns.

I use a lot of this product. It tends to hold up and is easy to lay down. Some weeds can grow up through the weave, but easily removed if done when young enough.

IF YOU LIVE IN COLORADO BEWARE. IT SHRINKS IN THE SUNLIGHT!!!!! I put this expensive stuff down on an overcast day with several inches of overlap between sections and covered about a quarter with mulch. It looked great. The next day it was sunny and when I went to put down more mulch I noticed that the weed barrier had significantly shrunk, pulling out staples and tearing the fabric. Have big gaps between sections now that I need to cover . I would of thought a polypropylene would actually soften in the sunlight, not contract. It must of been laden with moisture during the manufacturing process and dried out in the sunlight coupled with single digit relative humidity.

Really easy to put down and cut...no ripping and seems like it will last a bit. I used this as a barrier in a playground before putting wood chips on top. So far so good.
