A:  Depending on your location this could be a 2nd supplier of that product, I would look at which product is available at your local store or if you plan to purchase this product online and delivered to your home.

Q:Can I throw the seeds over my current lawn or do I need to remove the grass first?
    by|Apr 17, 2023
    1 Answer
    Answer This Question

A:  Vigoro Tall Fescue can be planted as a new lawn or to overseed an existing lawn. If your overseeding a lawn take care to cut your existing lawn low, dethatch, broadcast the new seed ensuring good seed to soil contact, and add an application of starter Fertilizer.

Q:Does it take over St. Augustine?
      by|Apr 17, 2023
      1 Answer
      Answer This Question

A:  St. Augustine is typically grown in the deep south so I would not recommend overseeding with a Tall Fescue product. Also, St. Aug is a fairly aggressive lawn (spreading) and with the proper cut heights and fertilization you should be able to fill in bare spots. I would also recommend purchasing some St. Aug plugs which will also assist with thinning areas.

            Southern Tough
This Tall Fescue Blend with water saving coating is the toughest seed I have yet to see in my area, which is the southeast. Here, during the spring, we frequently experience wide shifts in weather ranging from abnormally low temperatures to hot and dry, then rainy and it can change within a day. To add to the problem, the area where I have typically failed to grow grass is surrounded by two sides of concrete and one side by a railroad tie retaining wall, which is full of creosote. But this seed with the water saving treatment, the freshness of the seeds themselves and their ability to withstand the chemicals in the ground seemed to flourish immediately and even survived several sub-freezing days and within ten days had begun to grow over the area. Additionally, those areas where the sprouts were a little thin, readily accepted additional seeding with little crowding by the more mature sprouts. Further, with these exceptional seeds, I found soil preparation with some raking and a small covering of straw along with as needed watering (during the non-rainy days) helped to insure strong root growth. I fully expect to have a great lawn during the very warm days that lie ahead.

            It's only growing weeds!
I bought this same seed in the Spring and it worked as it should. However, much of the grass died with the stress of the summer. I bought two more bags this Fall. I prepped the yard, overseeded, and watered. After 14 days nothing but the start of weeds coming up. It's awful! What a waste of time, money, and water! Any grass in the photos is established grass, this seed only produced these weeds!

*** READ THE SEED LABEL!! ***
Guys, If you're looking to fill in a blank spot and dont care about the grass type, then that's fine. Annual Ryegrass (Italian Ryegrass) will grown in quickly, however, it is an annual grass which means it will only last the 1 year. My lawn looked horrible the following spring... This frustration led me to learn more about lawn care, grass type and redo my entire lawn. If you want a nice lawn, YOU HAVE TO GET GREAT GRASS SEEDS, PERIOD!. i learned my lesson.

                Good at first
I planted this seed in the fall of 2021 and the grass came in thick and handled the winter well, but it does not offer premium drought tolerance like the front of the bag says. It does get hot here (zone 5, Chicagoland) but the rest of my lawn survived this 3 week dry spell and you can tell the spots I reseeded with this are brown and dead. This brand has made me afraid to use tall fescue in my hard in the future.

                  DO NOT BUY
The worst seed in have ever bought. I aerated this year after pool install. I mowed lawn to 2 inches and overseeded and filled in low spots with 2 yards of screened topsoil. I watered daily for 14 days and almost nothing came up. the weather was perfect early oct 70+ during the day and 50+ at night, perfect cool season grass weather

The bag contained clumps of moldy looking seed. See attached photos.

I am very impressed with the germination rate of this seed. This performs as well as much more expensive turf type fescue I have used in the past. I will definitely buy this again. This grew in non-ideal growing conditions - little rain, little sprinkling on my part. I planted in early April in North Carolina and these pictures are from May 31st. Wow!
