Which direction do I turn the adjusting screw to decrease the pressure

Asked by Tom June 13, 2017

Turn it counter clockwise as if unscrewing a screw. Only turn 1/4 of a turn between checking the difference in pressure. If you make a full turn and the pressure doesn't change, the valve needs cleaning or replacing.

How would I install this in between 3/4 inch cpvc pipe?? Would there be a likelihood of failure using it in cpvc?

Asked by Chris June 15, 2016

CPVC has/requires different union fittings. The LFN45BM1-U has One union that is threaded for F NPT and regulator body is threaded for F NPT (both sides-see photos in first column). The Watts valve you need is LFN45BM-DU-CPVC (Double Union - CPVC Union inlet and outlet (3⁄4", 1") ) Here is link to spec sheet http://media.wattswater.com/ES-LFN45B.pdf Maybe local store special order desk can help.

How long is the body? For replacing inline.

From "flat" to "flat" (no union) 3 7/16" (88mm) From "flat" to outer edge of the one Union 3 7/16" + 5/8" (88mm + 16mm) From the outer edge to outer edge of second Union 3 7/16" + 5/8" + 5/8" (88mm + 16mm + 16mm) In each case, you will be threading NPT into body or union (union supplied is NPT) Here is the good news, this is the "stubbiest'/shortest pressure regulator I know of.

The N35B is a discontinued product. I bought and installed a Watts LFNBM1-U, 3/4 inch, at Home Depot, which is a direct replacement for the N35B. I personally would not bother trying to repair an old regulator when for about $60.00 you can replace and have peace of mind. Can't imagine what a plumber would charge to rebuild that regulator. I replaced mine and it was about a 20 minute job, after I got the old one out. Looks good, works well. If you personally will replace this regulator, get a $10.00 pressure gauge at Home Depot to enable you to accurately adjust your water pressure after installation.

Replacement of watts N35B
I recently began hearing what sounded like a surging sound coming from my water pipes that could be heard anywhere in the house when a toilet is flushed or a shower running. I purchased this prv and a water pressure gauge to see if it was my problem. I first checked my water pressure and seen it was just over 120 psi. After bout an hour of lying under my house, the new prv was installed. I turned the water back on and no leaks. I then checked my water pressure again after getting the air out of the system. The pressure is now right at 50 psi and no more surging knocking sounds. I just hope this one last 23 years like the old one. This was also a direct replacement for my N35B.

Installed easily, nothing fancy but works just as designed to reduce the city pressure coming into my home to a consistent and safe pressure. This replaced a 20 year old unit that had not failed but the piping around it needed to be re-worked so that was the time to go ahead and replace it. Yes, the bell is plastic and not brass and only time will tell if this will last another 20 years as the last one did, but for my purpose combined with the ease of installation and the savings of doing it myself--well worth the purchase and happy I did it.

Valve worked fine but be aware that it only comes with one fitting and one O-ring. You will need another O-ring as well, if you are using this for a replacement valve, as I did. Not sure the size of the O-ring. I already had one on hand from previous projects. I used this to replace a Watts N35B pressure valve.
