Q:Just curious... why is Home Depot recommending another Wayne 1 HP to go along with this pump? If this is the primary and backup what is the purpose of a third pump? Thanks in advance!
      by|May 18, 2023
      1 Answer
      Answer This Question

A:  The Basement Guardian Smart Wi-Fi Combination Sump System contains 2 pumps. An AC pump and a DC Pump. A third pump is not normally needed unless you have an unusually high water table in your home.

Wifi Module not working since the first reset
I have had this sump pump installed for about a month and its working fine. But the wifi module seems to not be able to get configured after working fine for a few mins and after the first reset. I got the app installed and followed the instructions. The device showed up in the app and was showing offline. After trying to troubleshoot, i removed the device from the app and reset it. And tried to re-add. But since then the app has been able to detect the wifi modules network ( the one with GM ) and when i click on add.. it spins and momentarily it shows be available networks and then goes on to say no internet connection. The internet connection in my basement is fine and i am already having the google wifi mesh. I really would like to have the module replaced. i cant understand why the customer service is unable to do that for a device for which i have paid $1300. They instead send me troubleshooting pdf with options to open port and set MAC address. I really dont see that needed. This module seems to be very basic and should work out of the box. I would really need a replacement of the module.

Was looking for an update for my sump pump. I like the fact that this unit has a battery back-up with Wifi communication features. I often lose my electricity with heavy rain storms which is exactly when I need my sump the most. Right out of the box you can see this is a well built quality unit/pump. The pump is large and substantial and with high quality materials. It is very heavy at over 65 lbs before installation. The directions are very clear and complete and looks like they can be mastered by a moderate DIYer. Unfortunately this unit is too large for my sump well area. The details do not explain that you need a minimum of 14 inch round clearance for this unit. I am exploring if I can at all adjust my sump area to accommodate for this unit.

Top of the line unit - battery backed sump pump, internet connected. Got this to replace my backup sump; a municipal water powered device that failed. Instructions say 15 minute installation...please read on. Unit was delivered by UPS, remember to thank your UPS delivery guy/gal on this one! The box is about 65 pounds. I suggest you open it up and and remove the three internal boxes to make it easier to handle. The instruction / installation manual is the first thing on top. Thanks for not making me dig for it! The smallest / lightest box is the electronic / controller mounted on the top of battery box. The second box contains the bottom of the battery box and all of the various modules, displays, clamps etc. Largest and heavy box (~50 pounds) is the per-assembeld dual pump assembly. Thankfully there is a nylon strap / handle that makes it easy to remove from the box. You can use this strap / handle (attached to the assembly) to aid in placing the pump pair in the sump pit. All items were very well packaged. The plastic battery box is obviously sized for an H8 battery, an H9 would be too long to seat. The manufacturer recommends a minimum of 75 Amp-Hours in either deep cycle (aka marine) or AGM. I used a H8 (14"long x 8"wide" x 7 1/2"tall) AGM (Advanced Glass Mat) lead acid battery 75 Amp-Hour automotive battery. I fits with a little room around it. The battery is about 60 pounds, and requires adapters from the SAE tapperd posts to use the ring terminals, (the brass things on my battery posts in the pictures) with this unit. These will be in the automotive section of the store. AGM's are non-vented, fully sealed units. I believe best in this stand-by application. A 'marine' battery would be better for lots of deep cycles and where adding water or venting are not an issue. FYI automotive H series are all the same hight and width, they get progressively longer H4 to H9. If you see them rated in L's, it is H - 3 = L. That is H8 = L5 etc. My sump pit is ~ 18" across, (this unit will fit in 14" or larger diameter sump pits) and uses 1 1/4" hard PVC discharge plumbing. I decided to clean up my installation befor installing this unit by removing: The hard copper backup supply line and capping it off, and scrapping the capped off PVC water discharge line form the old back up unit and the "Y" adapter form the old back up... This gives me a clean sump starting point. A kitty liter scoop works well to clean up the small rocks and debreis in the sump pit. This unit is per-plumbed with the necessary fittings; a pair of back flow valves, pressure level switch and a backup mechanical float switch, and single 1 1/4" discharge port. If it aligns with your plumbing, then the 15 minute time may be true. I takes me at least that long to read in installation instructions. I used nylon wire ties to keep things in place. My installation time; without cleanup about 2 hours...I still need to clean up the wires and floor. Setting up the software took <2 minutes; basically needed to find my WiFi password and create an account. Very straight forward. Have to see if it supports multiple notifications or I need to port it to several users TBD. A few tips when working with hard PVC; Buy the full length 10' pipe; inexpensive and easy to cut with a hacksaw or a fine pitch blade on a circular saw, keep the cuts square. Clean up the loose bits after cutting. Measure 3 times before you cut...hence the 10' piece. Avoid 90 turns; use a pair of 45's, the pump will work better and it will be quieter. Dry fit all the parts before welding with the solvent / glue. It will set in 30 seconds! I use a sharpie marker at each joint to insure they are in the same position as the dry fit. Use a rubber coupling (with hose clamps) at a joint, rather than a solid welded / glued assembly. It makes it easier for future service. Use a 5/16" socket on the clamps rather than a screwdriver.

Great pump. Part number on the actual pump label is different than the part number on the box and website. After contacting Wayne, they confirmed it is different, but still is the correct pump from Home Depot.

            Warning on Replacment Parts
I installed this at my parents home in late 2020. The software was wonky and we do not truly know if it works since it has not yet rained enought to test it. More importantly. Last week my ESP45, Wayne's former high end model, failed after 8 years. I tried to order a replacement float. Wayne told me it stops making replacement parts two years after a product is no longer sold. I now have a $500 paperweight. Spending $1500 on this pump is a risk. You will be abandoned when a new model is out.

I'd give this product 5 stars but the wifi doesn't work. Otherwise, it was easy to install and super quiet! It's powerful and the dimensions were dead on for a good fit.

I haven’t had a chance to see it working in the really flood situation yet. But testing was impressive, super quiet and super powerful. Wifi app was easy to install but not very intuitive. My biggest complain was, it is not mentioned anywhere that this device does NOT come with a DC battery. You have to purchase separately. Which is fine but I wish I knew it before I purchased.
