The Woodford IOWA model Y34 (Orange Head) 3/4 in. NPT variable-flow "America's Original" yard hydrant is immediate-flowing, even in sub-zero conditions. The adjustable linkage provides easy and positive adjustment of the lever lock tension. A rod guide eliminates side pull on the rod, reducing wear on the packing, packing nut and the stem. The one piece variable-flow plunger and the large cushion type seal for long life, assuring shut-off, even when foreign particles are present in the water line. The flow finder and lock automatically sets the same flow each time or can be locked against accidental opening. And the Y34 automatically drains when shut-off.

Chuck, The Y34 is "America's Original" yard hydrant and has Automatic draining, variable flow finder, rod guide support, etc. The Woodford W34 does not have the variable flow finder or rod guide support, yet produced with the same quality as the Y34 here in the United States. The top ad states that the height of this is 2ft, but in the description it states that it’s 60.5 inches. I’m assuming that the entire piece is 60.5 inches. I just don’t want to order it and receive one that’s only 2ft total length. Please clarify.

Woodford hydrant vary in length above the ground, however, all yard hydrants will be for example, 2 feet, 3 feet, 4 feet, etc. under the ground, based on what bury depth is recommended due to the FROST DEPTH. The Y34 yard hydrant will stand above the ground 36 1/2 inches, plus whatever depth will be below the ground. Looks like the hydrant cannot be locked with a padlock to prevent water theft? Is this correct?

My neighbor says if I don't have the handle ALL the way up water will leak out the drain - under pressure. Imo, it will not drain until handle is locked down. Are either of us right?
Keith, In our Woodford yard hydrants, we build in a "blind spot", in order that when you open the hydrant, it will seal off the drain hole and then allow water. Is something suppose to screw into little backflow hole at the bottom because it's threaded
Glenn, the threads in the 1/8 in NPT drain hole provides the option to thread a drain line/elbow into it so the Y34 yard hydrant will drain into a preferred area if you have poor soil conditions or you would like it drain someplace other that in the drain field below the Y34.
