Q:I need to replace the light kit on an older fan of unknown brand. In orer to know if this will work, I need to know the diameter of the canopy where it will attach to the fan. I can drill new holes if needed.

    A:  This light kit is designed specifically for the 42 in. Glendale ceiling fan and may not be compatible with other fans. It has a 3.5" diameter cap and two plugs. Please contact Hampton Bay (1-855-434-2678) for compatible replacement parts for your fan model.

                          A:  Your fan should have a pull cord. When you add the light kit, it will have a pull cord also. If your fan does not have a pull cord then you will only have one cord. If you have a wall switch that turns the fan on, you will need to turn on the fan with the switch and then use the pull cord to turn the light on and off. A bypass for that is to get a wireless switch added to the fan/light.
