                  Answer This Question

A:  Blocks are 5 1/2 in. high 1/2 in. mortar joint makes for a 6 in. height unit, blocks are 15 1/2 in. long 1/2 in. mortar joint makes them 16 in. in length. If you measure distance of wall (56') multiply by .75 equals 42 block for one course 6' in height equals 12 courses, you will need 504 block if you cut your own half's otherwise you will need 498 block and 12 half block.

A:  Well, let's puzzle this one out Jesse. 56' is 896". The blocks are 16" long, so 896 / 16 = 56. We can't forget about the mortar, though, so if you have 1" of mortar between blocks, that effectively makes the blocks 17" long. So 896 / 17 is about 53 blocks. That takes care of the width. Now for the height, you want 6' which is 72". The blocks are 6" high, but again, we need to factor in the mortar. If you put 1/2" mortar between rows, that makes your blocks 6.5" high. So 72 / 6.5 is about 11 blocks. So 53 blocks wide times11 blocks high is 583 blocks.
